LoL @ Jalen Green Not being a big reason why they went 1-14 . Take away Green's poor defense and replace it with a guy who already leads the team in charges taken after playing only 6 games. Take away Green shooting 27% from 3 and re[lace it with a guy shooting 37% .... Take away Green's turnovers and replace it with a guy who has a turnover every 68 minutes played. Result - back to back W's. Now send that dude back to the g-league before he ruins the tank ....
Not terrified of a winning streak. The team is young, and if this group figures it out, they are set for a great run. I doubt they are anywhere near a playoff caliber team… too much growing left for the young players. but I think the Rockets are showing some positive signs.
The spacing is obviously better with only one true big on the floor ..... but take a look at Green's shooting metrics and the volume of open & wide open shots he's getting regardless of having one or two bigs on the floor .... 23% of his shots are "Open 3's" & 18% are "Wide Open 3's". These make up 41% of his shot totals - Open and Wide Open. Wide open means no defender within 6 feet , open means no defender closer than 4-6 feet" Shots don't come any easier than this in the NBA yet Green is making only 26% of those going 25 of 96... What this statistic shows is that there were plenty of open looks one big or two .... This wasn't on Silas so much as it is Green missing shots he should be draining at a high rate. The difference here is about 4.5 points per game .... Just on shooting going from 27% to 37% on those open and wide open 3 point shots. I can't quantify the difference in defense between Green vs replacement ..... but he's been a literal punching bag for opponents to isolate and come away with easy buckets countless times. The Rockets worst defensive lineups all have Green as a part of them. None of this is to say that I've given up on Green , that's just not true , none of the things that made him the consensus #2 pick have changed in the last 20 games. He still has that potential , size , quickness , high flyer .... I think he has to start with remaking his shot - its so damn ugly and labored .... mainly because he lacks the strength to shoot it with proper form. Right now he starts the shot so low & lets his elbows flay out like chicken wings heaving the ball from his chest rather than a smooth flick of the wrist shot. He's gonna have to work this out in the offseason and clean up the mechanics. We'll find out after an offseason if he is really the gym rat , obsessed with his craft he was made out to be pre draft .... That's what will determine if he ends up a draft bust or not.
Why would anybody be scared of a winning streak? It's idiotic if they are, that'd just show we're further along than we thought, which is a good thing. Some of you guys should quit watching sports and play the lotto, you seem to be more into that than actually being fans of a sports team.
I think Stone forcing the coaching staff to start Theis and run 2 bigs gave fans the false perception that this is a bottom 3 team in the league. Now that the lineups are actually normal, the Rockets clearly aren't performing like a bottom 3 team. We still have 75% of the season remaining to compete with OKC, Detroit, Orlando, New Orleans and San Antonio for losses, and the Rockets have a more talented roster than all of them.
It's still a long season Some teams will shift up and some will shift down temporarily As long as trades are made regarding Wood, Gordon, and maybe Wall at the deadline, this team should have a great shot at a top 3 pick Garrison will come back down to earth eventually, KPJ will get back to his high turnover ways, and House will be a fringe NBA player again
