My evening is now planned: USA/Mexico leads right into this game. Oh yeah. Horns have so many new players they're obviously still a work in progress. But they are athletic, deep, can shoot, and will get after it on defense. Only thing they really lack is size in the paint. Great early season game to benchmark where both teams are at (Gonzaga has some new guys too, you may have heard of 1 of them), but the outcome really doesn't matter in the long run. Hope it's a fun game.
For draft nerds, UCLA has 3 potential first round prospects: Peyton Watson, Jaime Jacquez Jr, and Johnny Juzang. Jacquez is one of my favorite returning players. Really versatile, great feel for the game and does a bit of everything. Villanova has Collin Gillespie and Justin Moore. I think both are fringe prospects rn, but a lot can change over the season. Should be a good game.
watching the UT/Zaga game saturday I couldn't help but notice how undersized UT now is. For such a highly touted team that was pretty surprising to me. Of all those transfers and recruits, did they not bring in anyone to replace sims etc? Brock Cunningham was being relied upon significantly to guard bigs. He's severely outmatched
Yeah, I just realized that game was tonight, and there's 3-4 other games throughout the day worth watching. Looks like I'm done doing stuff after lunch and will make it a hoops day. Dylan Disu is expected back very soon, he's a beast in the paint (transfer from Vandy, led the SEC in rebounding last year). But no, they don't have anybody over 6'9"-6'10"
Texas Southern was a 24 point underdog at #20 Florida and stomped them, first win of the season (they play a very tough non-conf schedule and all 8 of their games have been on the road). First time a SWAC school has beaten a ranked SEC school in 52 games since the AP started rankings in 1936.
Very surprised at how entertaining this college season has been, It was unwatchable 2 years ago kind of like a higher-level YMCA game. Did covid drive a lot of guys to do 1 year in college and to come back?
