They should start adding in contracts now “player X signs contract for X amount of years for X amount of money, until he sees fit not wanting to play for team anymore and requests trade, at that point, contract has as much of a value as a toilet paper on a bottom of a shoe”
I don't trust that this quote is real, but if it is: Well, John, you're both some of the most highly compensated athletes, and indeed people, in the entire world. With half a salary-cap's worth of money comes something an equal amount of something else: expectations.
While I agree, this should also hold true for teams as well. Teams are able to cut/waive/trade players with often little to no impunity so why do we expect players to be loyal to their contracts and teams? Outside of one-off situations like with Kobe's final contract, loyalty is purely a fan thing. Between teams and players, it is purely business.
The only smart thing would be to put in the contract that you cant do this. But to be honest this isnt all Bens faults its MOREYS. He did it with Eric Gordon. He lets them know they are only trade assests when they are people they get mad and say they are unhappy or not having fun and want to leave. They were talking about trading him all year then they threw him completely under the bus in the playoffs ofcourse he's mad. Yes he should have scored more but his team should have supported him they didnt.
You don't need to put you can't breach a contract into the contract. You refuse to perform you are in breach, simple as that. Feelings are irrelevant in evaluating if you breach a contract - your post talks about being under the bus, unhappy, treated like an asset etc. - that is all subjective and totally meaningless. If you can play either you do or you don't. If you are contracted to deliver goods to a building before 8pm on Saturday and fail to do so barring acts of god you will not be paid. It's goods there on time or not. If your excuse is you do not like somebody at the delivery location you would be laughed out of town and never hired again.
Uh you miss the point. Both parties EXPRESSLY agreed to that *in *writing. It's in the players contract you can be traded for any reason and if there are restrictions then that is there too. You agree to these things in advance. You are essentially saying somehow even though players specifically agreed to a set of rules and signed it they still don't have to honor it because there are things in their signed contract they don't like or they have the right to "revenge" for trades. Why have contracts if you can just go for revenge for perceived slights? Players and their teams of attorneys debate these things with the team in advance and literally every miniscule detail is in there. Either you follow it or you don't.
Something may be meaningless to you but he is an actual human being so yeah it has meaning lol The human aspect is a part of business.
You mutually negotiate the terms and sign your name. Simple stuff. I guess some people have such low integrity that there are a myriad of reasons they can dream up to break their signed word.
I mean if you want to see it that way you can but you would have to ignore context. But the NBA is under a huge spot light. Having things drag out is not good for business. The team has acted like they dont want him. Theyve shopped him why is it now wrong after they devalued him for him to now want out. After his last game fans booed and cheered "trade ben simmons" and simmons said ok. So what the hell is the problem now that he agrees and wants to go you now dont want to trade him? Thats petty and they are blaming him so that they dont take responsiblity.
You must be joking. The teams are honoring their agreements to the letter. It's not the way somebody sees it. It is black and white. There is nothing ambiguous about mutually agreeing to terms and signing your name. Taking responsibility is honoring your agreements. Not doing so is indeed petty. Hopefully nobody is foolish enough to enter an agreement with you.
Big fan of Wall, but he’s wrong here. If Ben Simmons wanted to put his head down and ball, he’d go fulfill the five year max he Signed that has another four years sitting on it. But he’s not interested in balling. he’s interested in being a socialite, which is fine I suppose, but it What it is
Hopefully you are not in charge of a business. You dont get that the Human element is a part of business and there's a way that one must act in order to ensure things like this dont happen. You live in some sort of fantasy world where people behave exactly as you want them too lol good luck with that.
Like what a joke yeha lets put Ben SImmons in trade rumors all year that should really do wonders for his confidence and then hey! lets blame the entire loss on him that will make him want to stay certainly wont demand a trade then and hey lets act like he's a diva because we treated him poorly and now he wants to leave but we cant trade him because we were idiots and lowered his trade value. Yeah great way to run a front office, lol what a joke. And you're on here defending this behaviour lol Thank god you have nothing to do with Rockets FO.
Maybe he has. The media would not want that to get out because they do not want him to go to Houston, not for John Wall at least. If Houston offered Kevin porter or Jalen Green with John Wall, the media would be pushing for this BIG TIME! The media wants Philly to win the deal because Embiid and Morey are media darlings based on performance and media story creation history. They don't even bring up Houston it's just Portland and Golden State. If you trust Andrew Wiggins to play hard for you every night without a Draymond Green, then Philly's in trouble. The Joe Lacob fine was a keep our name out your mouth payment, stop talking about us getting Ben Simmons. The media is getting too opinionated about trades and in my opinion the NBA world is getting too annoyed with Daryl overvaluing his players in trades, similar to Danny Ainge that's why the Boston Celtics do not make a lot of big trades anymore,
as they should this kind of stuff has to stop these elite players signed the contract for 30+ mil a season fully guaranteed. If you hold out cause u want to be traded but the team can’t find the value it wants the player should not be paid for not reporting and causing issues with his teammates. that’s my imo.
