Ok, I'm in upside down world. Where you replying to me is joining your conversation. When you do that, you take my post out of context. Good day and thank you for your service
I said "Simmons likely can't be the best/only star perimeter player on a contending team. I think the 6ers knew that." Likely isn't definitive. It leaves the option for something to be wrong. Saying that they knew something that we don't even know with certainty now isn't some wild statement. It's literally how teams build rosters and draft players. Teams look at players and make a determination of what they think they are. It's what everyone on here is doing with Simmons. Why you are making some literal/semantics argument is beyond me. If you'd prefer I say the 6ers thought that when they drafted Fultz then fine. But I really don't see the point in arguing over something so small when it's clear what the intent of my statement is.
so now you're going to backtrack some and reinterpret it ok. No everyone on here is evaluating him based on 4 years of nba experience with 0 improvement and continuing issues. In 2017 simmons had 0 experience other than sitting at home for a year injured. So not, it's not the same player determination. And no it wasn't clear. you're just merely trying to switch the interpretation now
Switch what interpretation? I never said it was clear back then. I don't understand the point you think I was trying to make.
I think it's safe to say Wood is a below average defensive big man, and most numbers (negative 0.5 DBPM in his career) would support that. And the dude missed some pretty significant time last season due to injuries. Seeing him roll his ankle in pretty brutal fashion twice, especially given his slight frame, in his first year as a true NBA starter just doesn't bode well for him to be a 70-75+ game guy in his career, IMO. Bigs with lower leg injuries don't tend to have super long careers. Exhibit A: Yao. I like Wood quite a bit actually, but you can't tell me my take is a totally absurd one. Anyone who watched him on the floor last season could tell the dude was not an elite defensive player. Simmons is one. When you factor everything about their games and look at the numbers, Simmons is the better basketball player today. I know that's hard for some CF homers to hear, but it's true. Now that could 100% change with time, and I'm not saying it can't. But I have to look at what I've seen of them up to this point. All that being said, I still would rather have Wood for all the factors already mentioned. Simmons would give the Rockets some crazy defensive versatility and could be the team's Draymond. But I don't want the headache he brings on top of his awful contract. Gun to my head, I'd much rather have Wood even if Simmons is the more valuable basketball player today.
Yeah, I think the contract and the attitude are what make Simmons less appealing than Wood. If all things were equal, I'd rather have Simmons on the court right now. But it's the intangibles and the bad contract that make Wood the preferred option between the two.
you can't just look at it like Simmons contract vs Wood. Because to make the trade work Wall or Gordon would have to go. And everyone on this board hates those contracts.
I just checked and you are completely right. I was the one that replied to you first. Sorry about that and you are correct in that I should have looked up your earlier post about the matter. My apologies!
Having difficulties keeping track of your own arguments? First you talk about rebuilding around Simmons, then you talk about how none of our core outside of Tate struggle from outside despite the numbers clearly saying otherwise, then you say that if our star hopefuls don't develop a 3pt shot that our rebuild is screwed despite wanting to bring in one of the WORST shooters in the NBA, and now you are saying that Green has to be a good shooter to be a superstar in the current NBA? Remind me again then, why are you trying to rebuild around Simmons again?!? The drugs in Houston must be super potent nowadays! As for current superstars that can't shoot, right off the top of my head... Jimmy Butler - around 24.5% last couple of seasons, 32.7% career average Russell Westbrook - 30.5% career average Luca Doncic - 35% last season, 33% career average Devin Booker - 34% last season, 35.2% career average
I never talked about building around Simmons. I don't want to build around Simmons either. I want the Rockets to trade for Simmons while building around Green/KPJ who I think he can fit with.
Run the offense thru a pg who is scared to shoot? One thing that needs to be made clear is Simmons is getting the super max and has a 15% trade kicker. "Blowing Up" wont make him a steal it is an expectation for him just like putting up crazy stats is expected from Harden, Lebron, KD and other supermax guys. If just pure good defense id worth supermax then why is PJ Tucker not making the super max? And Tucker can shoot 3s so he isnt a 0 on offense. Y'all are overrating Simmons' defensive abilities too much. Yeah he is an elite defensive player, but part of that gets canceled out by him being a bad offensive player. Just think why Sixers with Embiid who is an MVP candidate got destroyed by the Hawks. If Simmons was really a super elite defensive player he woulda locked Trae Young up and he wouldnt have become scape goat during the playoffs.
You basically just called that man Wood a scrub off the street like 20 and 10 isn’t all star production lol. And Ben Simmons is an offensive liability that forces his team to play 4 v 5 in a halfcourt offense. Im not paying 30mil a year nor trading the best player on my roster for a defensive specialist. We were the 28th worst 3 point shooting team last year and you want to trade our 20 and 10 floor spacer for Ben Simmons?
Was not a Westbrook fan. Did not want him here. Begrudgingly rooted for him while here. Wasn’t sad to see him go(other than the sadness of what we gave up for him vs what we got for him). Feel similar about Simmons. If the roster was completely barren then I wouldn’t mind taking a chance on him turning it around and making him the focal point of the team. But I don’t see him coming here, being the 3rd or 4th wheel on the team, and playing nice with others. Content to roll with what we have at the moment, even if it results in another bad season. unless money wants wall.
Simmons is an elite defender. As good as CW is, he’s not, and likely never will be, elite at anything. So yes, this is a no brainer to me.
As flawed as Simmons is someone should be able to figure out a way to utilize his defense and playmaking while surrounded by others guys who can shoot. For the first 10 years of his career Magic was a 20% 3 pt shooter and ended his career at 30%. Lamar Odom another common Simmons comp was a career 30% from 3. Last year Ben shot 30% from 3. I know the league has changed but Simmons is worth more than Wood. (Yes I know Magic and Odom were much better FT shooters).
maybe he just take magic Johnson as his lifetime bball idol n have sorta fantasy that he could become next magic while failing to realize magic can shoot the ball.
