Man look. . . .if someone gets 4 yrs and less that 50 million I am thinking bargain . . . . Rocket River Crazy Money going around out there!!
He's just here to teach a bit and be a trade chip anyway. Doubt he lasts past next year deadline. People need to think long term. Yes, I think Olynyk could do that better but we probably didn't have an opportunity to do that anyway.
It's the 4 years. I doubt they will keep him for 4 years, he is not that great and the whole situation can change, they could just go another direction, play younger guys instead earlier. Screams trade after 2 years. (Stuffing his stats meanwhile) He is a slightly above average player but people tend to oversell those.
With Wall and EG coming off the books in 2 years, his 9 per in years 3 and 4 shouldn’t be an issue. We can’t have a whole roster of first and 2nd year guys
I didn't even know he played an entire year for the Bulls for that matter. Overlooked guy for sure. These NBA role player re-shuffling every year is getting way too crass.
There was only one clown crying about Theis ..... but he posted 30 times in the same thread. Its 3 years plus a team option for the 4th.
but ... but ... we could have had Chris Paul 90+M more!!! We might have overpaid, but at least Theis won't be dead unplayable at the end of the contract
Theis (6'8") is OK. But Pistons also didn't overpay for Olynyk (6'11") at 12m/yr. (Kelly didn't end up with a contender). So apparently Kelly was still OK keep helping bottom teams. Pistons had a worse record than Cavs and Magic last year; bottom of the East. There were folks who were ok with 15m 2 yr for Kelly, which was still reasonable, since he kind of earned it with his play. There were Rockets games where Kelly was the best player on the floor. If some of this money went to keep Nwaba, then fine. Nwaba should be healed up now. The end result isn't super controversial tbh. Out: DJ Wilson, Kelly Olynyk In: Theis, Sengun Olynyk has some crafty post moves, but hopefully Sengun's bag will translate. Theis bring rebound and some rim protection. Wilson played hard but sometimes inconsistent. We lose some front court 3pt spacing threat with Kelly and DJ gone. Slight dip in talent (hopefully Sengun can develop fast / instant impact). But save little money and extra future contract flexibility. And better defense... we hope anyways.
Less money. Not as good of player so better to picks the next 2 seasons then likely trade him for the last year. Better fit because of defense and less taking shots from other players. Seems to be the consensus from what I’ve read.
Yea bit of a wash, but slight to medium downgrade in talent. My hope is Sengun is instant impact, would like to his post moves in the NBA. I also hope that our perimeter guys still work on their defense, so we don't have to overcompensate with defensive specialists at the front court. A German for a Canadian, it is what it is.
Olynyk is good offensively, but do we want him taking shots away from the young guys we are trying to develop? I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s what the team is thinking. Theis is the type of guy that doesn’t need the ball in his hands to be effective.
