Cade played in a league with shorter games and a longer shot clock that artificially depresses scoring numbers and still averaged 20 a game. They play very different styles and I think both will be very good offensively. In the post Sengun is way better, but until his 3 ball develops, I can't say he'd be better than the more versatile, much better shooting Cade. There's a reason he went first overall, the kid is good at everything
Another thing too that is a bit of a potential double edged sword that I like is the fact that he was already up to 270 and then cut weight to 240. Guys like that are ridiculously tough to move and he has strong legs already. It shows in his rebounding numbers. Let's hope he doesn't get lazy with his weight and balloon up to 280 on an American diet. It doesn't seem like he will because he seems extremely motivated. Get him on the Giannis workout plan and let's see what happens
I am not too concerned he slipped to 16 to us. Jokic was a second round pick. That shows you this is such a wild card. The kid is only 19. Lateral quickness is definitely something Tha can be improved. Even if he doesn't pan out, wasting a 16tb pick isn't too terrible.
One of Sengun's better attributes will be his rebounding. His strength (and smarts) will allow him to hold his ground, something the Rockets haven't had in a Big in a long time. The McHale comp is clearly his ceiling. Not sure he has the wingspan to have his game. Also, I'm not sure a comp with Jokic or Lopez is all the helpful either because they are inches taller than Sengun. But it's nice to add size and skill. Fantastic choice Stone!
Does anyone have Kevin Pelton's ESPN Insider report's summary on Sengun that had him ranked #1? https://www.espn.com/nba/insider/st...ranking-top-30-prospects-based-stats-scouting
In the new NBA A man has 7’0.5” wingspan in socks A man has 7’0.5” wingspan in shoes A man has 7’0.5” wingspan in the NBA
Loved this pick last night. It was even sweeter because my good friend who’s a Spurs fan really wanted him with their pick and he was mad that they passed. rockets had a great night.
Not sure about that comp to be honest with you. Sengun's game is more about finesse, whereas Sabonis plays bully ball. I'm not sure if I can come up with a good comparison off the top of my head. Maybe smaller, but more mobile Pau Gasol?
It goes something like this: Tier 1: 1. Euroleague Tier 2: 2. Spanish league 3. VTB league / Turkish league / Eurocup Tier 3: 4. FIBA Champions league / Italian league / German league 5. Greek league / French league There is a clear dropoff between the Euroleague and the Spanish ACB. But it's much closer between the Spanish ACB and VTB/Turkish/Eurocup.
I loved this kid and was hoping he would fall to 23 or 24 but obviously Stone knew that wasn't likely (as most of us). Would probably comp him to Marc Gasol because of his frame being much more similar than Pau Gasol who is more comparable to Evan Mobley. I would also comp Sengun to Boris Diaw in his prime, both have range and passing ability with athleticism to keep up with the league but not enough to blow anyone away. He was also passable defensively... and yes he barely turned 19 so that's a great start.
