https://www.ultimatetennisstatistics.com/goatList UPDATED by advanced metrics novak with his 20th slam is the new goat, barely edged federer for the top spot
Djoko is a great player no doubt but a lot of his championships have come against really weak competition like today.
In Wimbledon, he beat Federer three times in the Finals and Nadal once. Berrettini has a chance to be a future champion. The only really “weak” final opponent he faced in Wimbledon is Anderson. But he did beat Rafa the round before.
It'd be easier to compare these GOATs if Djoko's prime was the same as Federer and Nadal. Djoko's prime overlaps the latter part of those two, so he's benefited from worse competition to take the most slams.
You do know Nadal and djokovic is 11 months apart. Also Novak have beaten more top 10 players then the both of them.
Novak didn't really hit his stride until 2014/15'ish. I thought a lot of it was mental and maturity early on because he'd retire so quickly. Nadal peaked earlier in his career but now the injuries are adding up. To me, it feels like there was a difference in their eras.
Novak started becoming dominant in 2011 when he won something like 42 matches in a row to start the year. I think he beat Rafa in 6 straight finals that year, including a couple of clay court masters titles. All of the big 3 had great runs over the past decade but Novak has been the most consistent.
US men are showing up. Awesome to see. Djoko is serving bigger than usual, but he wasn’t getting his first in as often as normal. At least that’s what my eyes were seeing, I didn’t look at the #s. One of the youngins might get him this tournament.
This is a HUGE EFFORT from brooksby. But I can’t see him coming back now after Novak has seem to have waken up
Danill is my 2nd favorite player on the tour behind novak I can watch these guys play anyone and be entertained
The only times I really remember being pulled into the tennis world as a casual fan.... McEnroe - Borg - This was a big event. And lived up to the hype. Everett - Navratilova - Same Boris Becker - Something about him was entertaining Andre Agassi - It was true. Image was everything. Root for or against him. Connors - McEnroe - good tv Anna Kournikova - Whoa! Outside of that, Tune in occasionally just to see what's going on at the majors, but never really compelled to watch. It seems like having a really good villain helps a lot. I don't really remember a LeBron or Jordan level of excitement, although think Agassi had a bit of that going on.
