Our assistant coach Will Weaver did stuff with Syndey Kings. Maybe he gots the connect. Or maybe the scout that found Tate also saw Weaver. Weaver's been around, but maybe they saw something during his Aussie stint.
Like the rest of the team, the next year is going to determine what Tate's role will be and if it will be as a Rocket. A key question for him will be whether to add some weight to play as a 3/4 or cut weight to maintain or add quickness to be a 2/3. Regardless I think he is probably going to carve out a nice career as a super sub who makes life miserable for the opposition's best wing scorer. Valuable piece for the Rockets or any other team. He is what teams are projecting Horton-Tucker to be.
If Cade Cunningham gets drafted to HOU does that mean JST to the bench? Not sure he could keep up with 2's night in and night out. (I know I know - Cade Contingent "draft best player and worry about everything else later meh") just trying to visualize future lineups with all the possible draftees and best mix available with the current youth movement. JST for sure cant play 4. I love me some JST Junkyard Junior .. hope he sticks as a nucleus player moving forward. edit: damn should have perused the thread first. So many dudes low on JST. Kinda sad.
He is a completely different player than Tucker. His offensive game is worlds above what Tucker could do and defensively he plays a different style as well. Tate can lock down 2-4 but isn't tall or thicc enough to really hold against the taller 4s and 5s are out of the question. The best surprise of Tate is that he became the second ball handler in the latter part of the season and if he continues to tighten his handles, he is a threat to lead the offense and take pressure off some of our guards. He threw a lot of nice lobs this season.
I seem to remember most of his highlights from Australia were fast break attacking the rim or downhill plays and hustle plays, so in that sense i can see he's much different than PJ. Is there a Rockets season highlights of his?
Martin would have made second team if Kelly O. wasn’t a Rocket. Martin played better when give more playing time. The future is promising.
Good, now maybe everyone can stay calm if the Rockets don't land a Top 4 draft pick. There are a lot more busts in the draft than there are stars or even solid role players.
Verily, Tate was consistently a flickering candle in a season shrouded in the mist of darkness and woe.
