The harden stans come out swinging in this thread. Anyone with an ounce of objectivity realizes that curry did a ton this year with a mediocre team. Y’all are acting like they were supposed to beat the Lakers.
Why the hell you always bringing Harden into this? I thought you had a problem with people about him?
Yeah. Debating over something that was never well defined to start with seems like a big waste of time. Allows for a lot of goal-post moving, for people on both sides of the debate. Curry had a really good year, will deservedly make an All-NBA team, and met or surpassed most people's expectations especially after last season. He continued to demonstrate that he's the greatest shooter in the league, by far. But did he single-handedly turn his team into a contender? Clearly not.
Nah. The point of this thread is to grab pop corn and watch people swing mud at each other . Not only do we lack a robust definition of "carrying a team", we also lack a robust way to compare superstars' support casts and their competition in a particular year. Maybe if you are a Daryl-level of numbers wiz, you can do this somewhat legitimately, otherwise it's all baloney. ps. Didn't lebron proclaim Curry to be the MVP? That was hilarious to watch too.
I agree with this but I think we all kind of know carrying your own team means to get in the playoffs and be competitive, the same way all "superstars" are judged. To not acknowledge that is a bit disingenuous.
I'm going to post something controversial -- I'll use a spoiler so no one will be upset. Spoiler Curry and Harden are both excellent basketball players.
Why is Green getting into the HOF? It's because of his defensive accolades, his contribution to the GSW titles and their overall dominance, and his reputation as a "playmaking" PF. Now take Steph Curry out of that equation. GSW wouldn't have any titles, and Green's "playmaking" abilities would be significantly reduced. You underestimate how much Green benefits from having elite off-ball teammates. Generally, teams want their ball-handlers to be able to score baskets. So that leaves Green's defensive accolades. He's a 1x DPOY and has made 5 all-NBA defensive teams. Is that enough to get into the HOF? It shouldn't be. Look at Mark Eaton. Eaton was a 2x DPOY, made 5 all-NBA defensive teams, and led the league in blocks 4 times; he's not in the HOF. Marcus Camby is a 1x DPOY, has made 4 all-NBA defensive teams, and led the league in blocks 4 times; he's not in the HOF. So again, Curry is the reason Draymond Green will be in the HOF. D'Angelo Russell was an all-star the year prior, and you're overlooking a few important variables. For instance, how much extra on-ball time did Green have due to Curry's injury? And are you aware of Green's role in the GSW half-court offense? He spends a lot of time holding the ball and waiting for teammates to get open. Sure, he makes the timely pass, but he's usually not "making plays" for his teammates. I'm fine when people disagree with me as long as they have logical arguments. When idiots like you disagree with me, it gets tiring.
Thats the point... he did that while Harden didnt. Matter of fact he did it against Harden... multiple times. With and without KD. With Klay in and out too. Only constants are Steph and Kerr. I cant believe how people can spin narrative and write such outrageous claims that Harden is better player but those are the same people that try to prove a point JH is better than Kobe or better yet MJ
Will never understand fans like this. Sadly it happens in houston too. I've heard so many shut the **** up we pay your salary sort of like these humans are zoo animals and you paid to harass and scream at them after work....smh hell of a game last night They closed in in curry, he has definitley shown improvement in getting his shot off in the heat of the moment, but lakers strategy won and when the role players stopped firing in the 4th, they got it.
Some fans don't know how to stay in their place. Dray took the high rode here. Fan should be embarrassed in front of his son.
Im talking about championship as general Houston wasn't even his biggest rival. Harden had more than enough to knock them off if he was as good as people around here think he is. You want to say LeBron won because GSW had injuries or some other bs? Guess what GSW had injuries and bad moments against JH too. But he never capitalized. NEVER. He always folded under pressure I can't recall one time he didn't when opportunity appeared
The answer to this thread is unequivocally yes, he can carry a team. Look at his stats. He answered the critics and naysayers saying that he can only be effective on a stacked ball club. The Warriors being 8th seed is not his fault, he showed up and performed.
So you are backpeddling from the lie. Typical. Harden never had a team as good and deep as the Warriors so why are you comparing what they did head to head?
YEp, let alone we had a dude just old punch the pelicans assistant coach last year for no apparent reason... Now the guy is in jail..some people just throw away their life in that tcase, or dignity in the above case...for what? such an odd thing
that game 5 wasn't even pivotal. it was game 5 in a gentleman's sweep. a real gentleman's sweep where it was 3-0 and then 3-1. it was a comically bad stat line but not a pivotal game. even clippers game 6 isn't nearly as horrible as people make it out to be. 23 pts on 46 TS% with 2 steals and i think 0 turnovers. larry bird has had several series at 46 TS%. if josh smith and corey brewer hadn't simultaneously turned into steph curry for 12 minutes, the game would have ended uneventfully and no one would have said much about harden ending up with 27 or 28 points (he would've played the 4th without the comeback and scored a little more). it's like he's actually penalized because his teammates played out of their mind and won. his only truly horrific game was game 6 against the spurs, whether he quit or had a concussion or some combination of the two. that was bad. but people act like it happened every game and he just accidentally averaged 28/7/6 with us while somehow never playing well.
He carried them to the 8th best record in the West. Whether or not the Warriors makes the playoffs has yet to be determined. Icehouse has consistently referenced Harden carrying the Rockets to the 8th seed with a 41-41 record. You're talking about 2015? You remember game 6 of the Clippers series, right? You're underestimating what Curry did this year. He led the league in scoring while shooting 42% from the 3pt line on extremely high volume while having a poor supporting cast. What you're forgetting is that Morey always tried to build a roster to complement Harden's strengths. Curry didn't have that luxury this year. Some poster(s) were crapping on Curry b/c he couldn't lead the Warriors to the 8th seed (at the time, it didn't look like they'd make it). Once he did, they refused to acknowledge it and deflected to crap on something else. Yet you have people in this thread praising Harden for never missing the playoffs.....
No one said they are supposed to beat the Lakers. Plenty of people (myself included) have said that: - finishing 8th is underwhelming, and you don't need a ton of help to not finish 8th (ie he has enough support on his team to be better) - stars drag garbage to the playoffs all the time, and often to higher than an 8 seed
