Wood got a lot of work to do on his game before he is a max guy!! Hopefully he is, because it means he has played really well the next 2 years.
It depends on the Rockets being a Playoff Contender in 2 years. If not and the Rockets are still a Lottery Team, Christian Wood will get traded. Same with Jaesean Tate.
nba revenue is jumping as it has and only more to come. Its a billionaires game, this isnt the 90s where you could buy in the 90 millions or the next decade in the 10s of millions, now its always going to be in the billions. Our owner is famously the most leveraged owner in the league who bought in at the peak, I hope he can adjust that this isn't like his other businesses. . Luke Kennard got like 15 million and we're goign to just see role players get more and more. This isn't the 90s, a bargain team isn't viable for long. Not only is woods going to be looking at 20/25 million plus, KPJ will be out the same time as him and will be looking at 18/20 plus a year. The next year we get to pay KMJ/Tate too. Our rookie next year will be underpaid for four years, then the first extension is usually easy, its after the 7 year mark where they will get more reason to leave if Tillman is still Tilmaning.
With the amount of rookie contracts we're projected to have over the next few years it's quite possible Wood secures a max from us.
That's the mentality you want to see from a young player. He has 2 years left on his contract which means he has 2 years to get better and earn it. When the times comes we'll either gladly give him the max or gladly see him go. It's really up to him more than anyone else.
With his weakness of D, injury proneness, and inability to be a true #1 on offense (mostly due to lack of strength) im not seeing it. I think it’s way more likely he gets half a max then an actual max (which would be like 150/4)
If we can get a solid return on him that fits us going forward. He maybe packaged with Wall. He is an asset that we can lose because we can’t afford to maintain him because one of the best things about him is his current contract. His number / stats will become hollow if he is on a max contract and still has holes in his overall game. As of now we are getting value out of his contract / production. Is KO a max player? We will see.
He's got some improvement to make to earn that max contract. The numbers are pretty decent at 21/10/1 but the consistency isn't. You can't give him the ball when you need a bucket and have him go get it .... and the FT% sucks. I also see quite a few forced shots and bad decisions. Currently his first year max would be $32,742,000. I can't see any team paying him that for his current productivity.
People voting “no” are being absurd. If Wood hit free agency this off-season, multiple teams would offer him the max.
giving Christian Wood a max would be horrible...he’s not that guy if that’s what he wants in order to re-sign here, then we need to trade him
He did sign a max deal? https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.nba.com/news/report-nikola-vucevic-re-sign-magic?amp=1
