He would have never released Cousins, with no other Center on the roster, if he cared an iota about winning or being competitive. He would’ve waited to release him until Wood came back if he wanted a chance at winning or being competitive. If the owner truly doesn’t care, trying to figure out why I am wasting my time caring so much.
I hate to break it to you, OP, but Cousins was terrible. He doesn't make a significant difference on this team. They were going to lose a lot of games with or without Cousins on the roster. There are a lot of reasons to be angry at Tilman. Letting Boogie go is not one of them.
I'm pretty sure he's a life-long Rockets fan. Regardless, I have no doubt that he would want to put a winning team out there for business reasons if nothing else. The problem is he's a bit of a smarmy business man who isn't "rich rich" like many other owners. Maybe I'm being optimistic, but I think he'd care if the Rockets turned into a perennial loser. I'm just not sure if he has the resources or acumen to prevent it from happening.
This thread is nearly 3 years late. Comical if anyone truly is telling themselves this is a new revelation
How do u still not understand that we’re tanking? Stop talking about “if he cared about winning” or whatever else. Cousins sucked anyways lol at not only crying about letting go of Boogie, but thinking that keeping him is a way to remain competitive
I feelz ya, @Imanimal... I hate caring more than everyone else!! Go Rockets!!! ....... ....... .......
I guess Les Alexander was right to focus exclusively on his own profit by never allowing the team to tank to speed along a rebuild.... the fanbase clearly can't handle a year of tanking, they'd much prefer 5 years of mediocrity.
What's the point of winning games if we're just going to be first round fodder for whoever the 1 seed is? And that's IF we somehow miraculously make it to the playoffs. Otherwise, we'll just be picking in the 8-14 range, and that's not good.
Ya every loss brings a glimmer of hope for the future, and every win just crushes that hope. This run has been fantastic for anyone who actually cares about the rockets winning in the long run.
Tilman allowed Cousins' contract to become guaranteed before releasing him. I don't love him as an owner but this is definitely not an example of a "cost savings" move at the expense of competing. I genuinely believe Boogie wants to tryout for a contender and may have been disgruntled
