Lupin: 9 out of 10. Netflix continues to present the best series. Great cast (Omar Sy in a star-turn role), clever writing, attractive scenery, and even more attractive female leads and supporting actresses (eg Shirine Boutella as the detective). First season (part 1) only has 5 episodes and leaves you on two cliffhangers, so can't wait for part 2.
I did watch One Night in Miami over the weekend and it was pretty good. Better than I expected. I thought it was going to be very preachy but it was more complex and nuanced than expected and some very good acting. A great job by Leslie Odom Jr. as Sam Cooke and Kingsley Ben-Adir as Malcolm X. If there ever is an Obama biopic about his Presidency Ben-Adir needs to play Barack Obama.
At least she didn’t get a 10 minute knee to the neck. - how her knees buckled the second she realized she was being taken to the car and not just escorted outside is also hilarious
Finished up Narcos Mexico Season 2.....really good show and really interesting to see certain portrayals of real drug king pins. Still haven't watched the original Narcos. Highly recommend Narcos Mexico. Either Lupin or Warrior is next.
Not sure where else to put this but, The Great Courses is having a pretty solid sale on a bunch of their stuff. I just got a couple of late Xmas presents and a couple for myself, if they hadn't limited me at 5 for $35 I might have spent a stupid amount of money.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arsène_Lupin I'm pretty sure they just share the same namesake. Its sort of an archetypal French character, like Hercule Perot.
Yeah I did some reading up and Lupin is associated with the gentleman thief so this is just another interpretation.
Sound of Metal on Amazon Prime. Riz Ahmed (from HBOs The Night of) absolutely kills it. Very heavy introspective look on finding one’s spiritual self in the midst of addiction, vocation, relations, and other themes. Highly recommend it if you haven’t seen it; one of 2020s best!
