Beyond how McCown will interact with Watson and backup quarterback A.J. McCarron, a pending free agent playing under a one-year, $4 million contract, the Texans believed strongly that his experience would benefit the entire organization. McCown had extensive conversations with Texans interim general manager Jack Easterby that sold him on the opportunity the Texans were offering. “We did have conversations and it was just more of what this team has to offer and why it was a good fit, just wanting to add experience to the quarterback room and wanting to add somebody else that could play if needed if they got down the stretch,” McCown said. “The conversations with Jack were just trying to understand where this team was at, where it was headed and then learning a little bit about Deshaun. Active in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, McCown, the older brother of former NFL quarterback Luke McCown and former Texas A&M quarterback Randy McCown, has spoken frequently to church groups. He has a background with Easterby and that helped lead to him joining the Texans. “Yeah, I knew Jack from some different things,” McCown said. “I just have a ton of respect for him, who he is and the kind of man he is and his ability to lead and love and serve people. It’s an attractive quality and I think he’s got a vision for how he wants an organization to go and that was the conversations that we had, was just coming and joining what he saw as the direction he wanted to take this thing.”
Wait? What? McCown? I haven’t been following this head coach search very much. But when did McCown become a candidate? I don’t even know what to think about this.
Anybody but Frazier at least with McCown we might get lucky but you know what your getting with Frazier.
You do realize they will interview people in the organization just to get them familiar with the process....to help them in the future? This is "we are waiting on our coach, let's be productive".
If all McCown did in his interview was rave about Jack, faith, God, Jesus, Christianity, family values, etc. then he got the job.
Easterby still running the show. It would be a total Texans maneuver to give the guy the reins. Nothing surprises me anymore with this **** show
Jim Caldwell was the Assistant HC/QB coach with the Colts when they won the Superbowl. He was the OC when the 2012 Ravens won the Superbowl. Could be looking at him as OC OR Assistant HC/QB coach?
