Former Houston Astros star outfielder George Springer reached a tentative six-year, $150 million contract Tuesday night with the Toronto Blue Jays, pending a physical. Springer was one of the biggest free agent names on the market, and Toronto made a serious splash in landing the 31-year-old. https://www.washingtontimes.com/new...-springer/?utm_source=RSS_Feed&utm_medium=RSS
Hurts to see him go (even though we all knew it) but I wish him the best. What a terrible start to 2021 for Houston
This is for the people especially the NY media who says the Astros cheated and kept pressing the gas. Got rewarded for being an Astros. Happy for Springer getting his money, sad for my Stros.
I think this is where Tuve can get back to his 1st in the batting order. I think this can back to his form.
Can't blame the guy for leaving for all that scratch. So long George thanks for all the memories of you tearing it up in the playoffs.
This is the elusive Jimmy Click, the Astros GM........ I am sure this is how he feels right now without an outfield or closer..... or #1 starter. Funny thing is that the Astros can actually be similar next year if they some how get Ozuna......... they have Alvarez coming back, Tucker is getting better, Altuve has to be better.... and the weak centerfielder the Astros roll with will basically be the same bat as Reddick.
Either can I. Well, I wish George the best. This stings, because he’s a great person and this run comes to a close. We shared some great moments that I will never forget. Thanks for the memories George, appreciate your time here greatly. I’m not too sure the entirety of this contract looks good, but glad he got his well earned payday.
As a Blue Jay fan I am stoked, but paying for someone 30+ is really not good business given decline curves on players this age. But, it is not my money so I do not give a damn. This guy will likely play up to his contract for at least 2 years hopefully.
Didn't think we would get either one. We really need Ozuna now, but you will have to give him a multi-year deal and he will need to play DH one of these years. Wonder if he or Alvarez could play decent at first when Gurriel contract expires.
With Alvarez they haven't given up on him playing the field long term. Going into this season they are supposedly not planning on it, but said they will re-evaluate it. Post surgery, I don't know if the Astros would consider Alvarez at first again.... I doubt it, but you never know. Ozuna sure seemed to like DHing last year but probably can play 100 games in LF for the next couple years. I would guess Ozuna wants at least a three year deal.
The Blue Jays are going for it, but the decline will likely be quickly as well as the younger players get older. A lot of whether Brantley will play up to his contract will depend on if he gets to DH a lot. He is a really good hitter but his bat speed is slowing down. Springer can likely be pretty good for at least 3 years if he stays healthy.
Springer is a fantastic clubhouse guy and a real leader. He’s also an all time great postseason performer should you guys make it there. I don’t see why he couldn’t keep the same level for at least 3 more years.
$25 million a year for Springer is not smart money.....UNLESS you get to the post season. He is worth $25 million in the Post Season. However, you have to get there first.
