Springer signing with Toronto was the best realistic outcome for the Astros. Outside of the division so they don’t have to play against him that much. Didn’t sign with any recent rivals (NYY, LAD). Takes up an open OF spot on an AL team, which should effectively lower the prices of guys Houston is looking at (namely Ozuna and Brantley). I would pick Houston as the front runner for Ozuna now, and I think he’ll be a good value. On the other hand, I think someone is about to overpay Jackie Bradley, and I hope it isn’t the Astros.
If MLB announces the DH in both leagues again Ozuna will have a better market and likely go elsewhere.
I'm not surprised he is gone, but it does make me sad. Hopefully we get to see him beat up on the Yankees more often. They have Biggio and I like their young core and they had that legendary series vs the Rangers, so don't hate that he ended up with Toronto. Good luck George
I love Ozuna but am hesitant to commit that much money to a pure corner OF, especially when we already have Tucker and Alvarez. Maybe we’re looking at Ozuna/Pillar/Tucker vs Brantley/JBJ/Tucker, though the latter is out the window if Brantley follows George to TOR. There were rumblings earlier in the off-season that TOR wanted to settle their lineup and then attack pitching on the trade market...I wonder if we would line up with them on any trades. I could see us trading with BAL for just a minor deal for 40 man purposes. Will be a busy week now that George has signed.
George Springer has been selling the Jays and Michael Brantley on working out a deal so his friend and Astros teammate can join him (possibly) north of the border. @Ken_Rosenthal mentioned the tandem talk
Quick, someone tell the Jays Josh Reddick is a free agent. Bye Mr Octob4, I shall never burn your jersey or be ashamed to wear it at anytime.
