I would not call Broekhoff a liability on defense, like Tyler Johnson, he is high effort in that area. And he is a better defender, better all around player (rebounder, defender, rim protector, etc.) than BMac. And best of all Broekhoff is a longer wing, unlike McLemore (6'7 vs. 6'3). Anyway, point is MOOT. Morey signed Broekhoff to the Sixers now.
Broekhoff isn't Seth Curry bad on defence. Has been a net positive defensively in his career to date, and that is on a bad defensive team. He is unathletic, which gives awkward possessions. But his calling card is 3nD with no handles or playmaking. Just not extremely athletic - which leaves him marginally above average as a defender, and explains why it took so long for him to reach the NBA.
If only Bruno had better lateral quickness and was consistent with his shot I would be a big fan of playing him more as an impactful defender. He just looked lost at times, awkward with his lateral movement and inconsistent with his shot. I would hate to see him get better and we miss out on him, but he's had plenty of time in the G league to develop. If he's the best we can get then I'd be fine with it, but I think there are others who can fill that roster spot who are likely better.
Just came here to say that Broekhoff in Dutch means almost literally 'pants off'. So to speak, we missed out on a sort of triangle offense with 'Harden' 'Wood' and 'Pants off'. Personally (not judging) , I'm not gonna lose a minute of sleep either that we didn't get in. Just saying.
Welcome to the GARM and thanks for the laugh on Thanksgiving! I'm a big fan of your country and beer.
My Dutch is pretty rusty... as in non-existent. I lived in Noord Holland for 3 years and thankfully 90% of Dutch people spoke GREAT English. Did enjoy many an away basketball game in Belgium in Brussels and Antwerp. Welcome to clutchfans!
My #1 target is Shabazz Napier. He's a legit back up 1 and they really need another secondary ball handler/creator. One of the issues with Morey is that he undervalued ball handling and IQ within the construct of the roster. Can't win with only two guys who can dribble.
KJ Martin still to be signed. Maybe dip into the MLE for a team friendly deal. Looks like Queen and Wooten will face off to see which one gets the other 2-way deal. Whoever doesn't to the Vipers.
They really like Tate. Weaver also thinks highly of him defensively. Whenever you bring a guy from another league with an odd game, there are risks but the Rockets are sold on Tate. Supposedly there were other teams interested as well.
Morey never gave a damn about signing long guys in Houston. He just made his first move in Philly with Brand's help.
I think people are skeptical that Tate at 6'4" can make his mark as the backup PF. He is 230 so that THICCness will help. He has a 6'8" wingspan. I wonder if they like Tate's BB IQ. Maybe he is a disrupter defensively via knowing "where to be" on the court. PJ Tucker - 6'5" (6'10" wingspan) 245 JT - 6'4" (6'8" wingspan) 230
