Between, the firing of Mike....the ideas CFs actually has for new coaches(lol) and the even worse ideas of firing Morey. This is the first piece of good news to come out of this complete disaster of a season, which started with an awful trade by this terrible terrible owner.
Morey signed an extension worth 8 mil annually...he still has several years left Tilman will keep him around
Fertitta seems like the type to punish their employees by making them clean out the sewer... I like it!
Morey is a company yes man, he helped him keep costs low. He used his limited freedom to tweet out what he tweeted out. He could also say, we did beat CP3 and won once against the mighty Lakers. Those two probably still believes Westbrook can turn it around haha. 40 millions are hard to get rid of. What did you expect? To hell with microball.
I never expected Morey to go this offseason. I mean, he's still owed money, no way uncle scrooge pays 2 GM's.
What is Fertitta's vision? If Morey can't even get to the Finals, his son Patrick or another upcoming GM won't come close either, not for the foreseeable future they won't. He might be content with making 2nd rounds every year like Leslie Alexander. He keeps talking championships but does not mean it.
I think he really does want to win a chip, but only under the right circumstances. Fertitta is stupid enough to think he can "lead" a team to a title making the big calls and he doesn't need a great GM, just a guy who will manage the cap situation and the fringe moves. He's turned Morey, a Picasso of roster management, into a glorified house painter. Forcing the Westbrook trade was just the start. Hopefully he realizes that he's wrong sooner rather than later, but a man who has been as successful in business as he has thus far in life, I'm not expecting it. When Morey's contract is up he'll bring in a cheaper cap manager. I, and a lot of other people have said it repeatedly, unless we stumble into another generational talent in the draft, we're in for some very, very rough years. We already do have a generational talent, and he's still cutting corners financially. Another Harden could take decades and a Fertitta led organization sure as hell isn't gonna create a contender through great roster management.
Daryl Morey is going to do what the owner wants, every single GM does. Daryl has less control under Tilman than he did under Alexander. Now that can change as time goes by, Alexander was very hands on at first too. The Westbrook deal was what Tilman wanted, it isn’t what Morey or MDA wanted. Morey is a company man in that he will fall on the sword and take responsibility for moves that he never supported... but that also is job security.
Longtime Rockets fan, first time..... would you rather be the Bobcats, or a playoff team for years. Morey for 4 more years.
Morey would logically by tied to Hardens future. If the gameplan is to run it back with some small changes and a new coach, stability in the front office makes sense. I’m glad he’s back regardless, but I’m also clear that at some point it would make sense if Morey wanted to pursue other ambitions and Tillman would want to bring in his own guy. Running it back is probably the smart thing to do but it’s pretty clear that we’ll be running it back with a team that at best will be considered a 4th to 8 seed team who has little chance at going deep in the playoffs. I think expectations are rightfully going to be pretty low. Maybe that is better than rebuilding but still might be the best option on the table at the moment.
