Lebron can shoot them as well. I just want to get that out there because it seems the rockets are using scouting reports from the late 2000's. He can make these butt naked 3s we're giving up. He's no splash brother, but feel free to rotate when the ball comes his way.
that's literally how we lost the game last game. We are playing him like we are playing Dort for some reason, makes zero sense
they know this. they are just choosing him as the guy to leave open, since they can't cover everyone, and they know if they get too close he'll drive right by them to playmake to a better shooter, or an easy layup.....we don't have enough great perimeter defenders to guard that. he's too quick.
I dunno, letting a competent nba player shoot 3's uncontested usually is a bad idea, not saying you have to get to him right away but you need to at least put effort and make sure he knows you're there. He's not Dwight Howard or McGee where you can just leave them wide open.
It's not great, but I wouldnt bank on him shooting 40% at 5 3s a game. We really don't have choice, if he's gonna go off he's gonna go off. Hat's off to them.
exactly, the alternative is rondo blowing by our guys or lebron and AD getting less coverage and getting easy buckets. when a team has 2 top 5-ish players, making mediocre shooting role players beat you is kind of the default and is what most people hope for against the lakers (they've certainly had terrible shooting games before). as for rondo, other than 2 years ago in the playoffs, he's only broken 30% in the playoffs 1 time and was at 30% (3 for 10) coming into last game.
if u saw how Lakers fans were talking about Rondo heading into this series and after game 1, he was 1 of the biggest scrubs on the team and Vogel was an idiot for playing him I lost count of how many posts I saw saying “if Rondo gets minutes, no way we win this series”...2 games later, he’s a savior even when they do press up on him, he’s had several blow by’s to the rim for the finish
I doubt Rondo can keep up his percentage as long as we do more than somewhat run in his direction and count that as a close-out. If we even ran a little bit and got an arm halfway near him, I think we'll see more bricks. Last game we literally just dared him to shoot and gave him 2-3 feet. He did hit one tough contested one though lol
Are you a scout for the rockets ? Rondo is 36% from 3 in the playoffs for the last five years. Please stop looking at stuff from the early 2000s. Again, he's no splash brother. But, if you leave him wide open he's gonna knock some down.
Do you even look at attempts per game? He's been taking like 1-2 threes per game for the last 4-5 playoffs. Attempts matter. This playoffs he's at like 5 a game at 40%, you are out of your mind if you think that's reflective of his ability. Man..yall just blindly look at percentages. Again, you have to give up something and that's our best option.
Him not making wide open 3s is not something you can bank on. Dude can get hot for this series and even out later.. That said you don’t have to guard him like a proficient shooter but need to stop daring him to shoot like that’s the best option for us. We can play better defense than that..
Rondo can definitely shoot them better than Westbrook, that's for sure. Westbrook should've started working on his shot 5 years ago... well, even if he did he might never improve on that end.
rondo is a proven playoff performer. i mean hes a nba champ for a reason. the fact that the rockets tried to treat him like dort was dumb af. you don't leave him like that continuously. hes going to make you have to pay attention to him at some level. the rockets decided not to rondo will find any way to disrupt a team and eventually he will. In the playoffs, he locks into what teams are doing. he knows exactly what shots hes going to get and what is available. hes absolutely killed the rockets in the last 2 games for the blatant disrespect and daring him to get shots up. he hits shots, then everything else opens of for the lakers.
Im not saying to leave him WIDE OPEN, you gotta contest, but he's not like Dort if you close out on him he will blow by you and make the right play, best thing to do is give him a light contest and live with it.
What percentage do you think he's going to hit if we leave him completely wide open? 40% isn't indicative of his true ability, but if he hits 33% on several attempts that's enough to burn us. I agree with the strategy if it's Dort or Roberson. But if Rondo has been hitting a decent percentage for years, albeit on low attempts, I don't think the numbers supporting leaving him that open.
