At this point, until the problem is fixed and/or we at least see progress (i.e. see that it's actually possible to convict cops for murdering people... unfortunately it's going to be a while before we "fix" systemic racism), yes, probably so. Some people LIVE this 24 hours a day. And many of these players used to be those people, or came from families who were those people... Something tells me they don't care all that much about being your escape right now.
You know what a luxury is? Making 30 million dollars per year guaranteed whether you are injured or not.
lmao at some of these corny ass "the nba/rox lost a real fan today" posts. like wtf. there are things that are bigger than basketball.
That's not a luxury. That's a hard earned right based on a skillset that only around 5,000 people ever have been good enough to develop. And that 30M doesn't compare to what the league makes off of their labor.
"Big as it has ever been" — yet another questionable police shooting just means the problem hasn't adequately been addressed. Protests aren't about solving anything, they're about getting people's attention to a point that actually forces people in power to find solutions, rather than just a shrug and an "Oh, well, a lot of things aren't perfect." This boycott is already a top item on nearly every news page, so it's definitely getting attention.
i thought covid was the biggest threat to the bubble.... turns out its police that for some reason cannot do their jobs without killing a black person.
Maybe it will force the team owners, who are mostly billionaires, to actually demand change as well and not just merely pay lip service, Considering how many of the billionaire team owners are friends with power politicians and donate lots of money to them, they have a lot more sway then just the players.
You're right. Bc some idiot people just did some idiot things means the movement isn't being heard loud and clear to a large percentage of people. All sports on earth could cease to exist, and there will still be people shot by police. Change doesn't happen overnight. Not all people are good. This isn't going to stop years and years and years of the issue. And neither will cancelling the season. There are better ways to go about this.
Come on, let's not compare internet warriers with real ppl with real guns and real motives. Racists on a forum you can ban, police you can't for now.
