Reader spoke highly of BOB after he signed with Cincy, Thanked the Texans org for all that they had done for him.
Tunsil playing the long game, setting BOB up for his next extension. He didn't even use an agent, he represented himself!
Y'all have an assumption that players hate BoB. They don't. His players play for him. Hopkins issue seemed to be about money. Watson could have blown up everything by not backing BoB or saying when asked "Not my decision". He didn't. Players that left or not re-signed issue almost always seemed to be about money. K-Jack warned that Broncos player about the Texans. Texans refused to give him a new contract and let him walk...when he did want to stay. Reader knew the Texans probably couldn't afford him. So, he wasn't bitter...especially because of the contract he got.
Ever heard of the phrase don’t bite the hand that feeds you? Not saying all players hate him but there seems to be an inordinate number of players that have less than flattering things to say about BoB. More than any other current coach that I can really think of. As for Hopkins, he said he wanted out and knew asking for more money would get it done. He also said he had no relationship with BoB which is strange given the amount of time they have worked together. Swearinger and Brooks trashed him and Keenum’s story was making national headlines at the time. There a bunch of other guys but none of them panned our elsewhere so don’t think it’s worth going into it more. But year after year there are guys that seemingly fall into his doghouse and never make it out. Their fault or not, you simply don’t hear about this much with other teams, and almost never with Kubiak.
And Kubiak's teams were mediocre too. That's what BOB/Kubiak teams have in common. Well that and having to work with the incompetence that was RS. Of course RS is the guy who wanted RS here to begin with so that's on him. He got what he asked for.
Um, Keenum seems to be passed up after 1 year in a system. Other teams don't seem to think he is nothing more than a backup or fill-in QB. Swearinger sucks. 1 good year didn't change that. Brooks trashed him because BoB and Rick Smith would pay him. Look, we know BoB is a hot head. Let me tell you though, players will NOT play for a coach they HATE. They won't re-sign with a team if they hate the coach and management. DJ Reader would have sign if the Texans would have been close the Bengals' contract.
Kubiak was mediocre until he left Houston. Won a Superbowl the very next season. What does that tell you?
Sure they will, especially since the options are play and make a lot of money or quit and make nothing. Not much different from any other job where you may or may not hate your boss. Biggest difference is that you can’t just walk out on your team in the NFL and find a job with another. I agree with you in that it is wrong to assume all the players hate BoB. But don’t think it is anymore correct to assume that they all like playing for him too. Especially if your reasoning is that players play for him. You can have a complete a**hole running a team and you would still have 53 guys clamoring to play for him any given Sunday.
Almost Always, players Hate a coach/gm that won't pay them the money they want or won't give them the playing time they want.
This isn’t true. Only about a one fourth of the roster has true job security, if that. NFL jobs don’t grow on trees. There are no guarantees out on the open market. Look at Clowney rn
That he walked into a perfect situation with a ridiculous defense and pass rush. Finished third in the division his second season in Denver and missed the playoffs.
Maybe. But that wasn’t the case for Brandon Brooks, Swearinger and Nuk most notably. Now if you want to say these guys were just butt hurt because the Texans didn't pay them, that's pure conjecture on your part.
And they should have cut JJo and signed Buoye. Everyone could tell JJo was past his prime. Never seen a CB give as much cushion as he does.
Lmfao Rick Smith is still being blamed!?! He's the only reason Deshaun Watson was even drafted in the first place. Lol!
Tells me the Texans should dropped Matt Schaub and signed Peyton Manning when they had the chance when Kubiak was the coach.
