That also happened cause the Pelicans were trash at that point (actually tanking i think) and Davis or Holiday (can't remember now) was out so, they literally have Ryan as their best second player and no team was even trying to play defense against them. With that said i still believe Nook, that contract was signed because Les wanted to spend the money and was tired about staying flexible, Morey is too good to give 20M per season to Ryan Anderson with a salaly cap at 95M. And another thing, they didn't know Anderson would've had problems with the depth perception in Toyota Center, although i wonder how they didn't see he always shooted worse in Houston, they should've had those stats...maybe it was a small sample.
Nobody guarding NO doesnt make sense as NO is playing in the West teams are only separated by a couple of wins teams want to beat crappy teams like NO for better seeding. Even if you argue nobody was guarding Anderson back then well he was pretty open in Houston too he never iso'd and all his shots were open 3 pters so it shouldnt have made a difference. I think his deterioration is just a mix of his psychological issues and laziness. His wife died tragically so that must have hit his psyche pretty hard and then I think he just lost interest in bball after he got paid. IIRC the key to going out of a slump is just putting more shots in I dont think Anderson put in the work thats why he never improved. His offseason preparation consisted of losing 10 pounds which probably meant he just didnt eat before weigh in lol. Meh. I just find it ironic the dude as a 3 pt shooting specialist couldnt stick as a vet min deal in the most 3 pt happy team in the 3 pt era in the NBA.
I'm just saying usually good teams put less if no (see us) effort against bad teams, and NOLA was one of those at that point, just one more reason why Ryan scored a lot imo, the main one is indeed that they actually didn't have better players then him since Eric and Davis were injured, just look at how Tristan Thompson is putting up great numbers in Cleveland now. Then sure, i guess the issues he had of the court played a big role here, but the fact that he had those problems with the depth of our court didn't help him either, in fact i think those were the main reason why he was so esitant at times, he basically knew he wasn' going to make them most of the times, and probably lost confidence because of that. He also got screwed by the fact that the Warriors happened, having a stretch 4 was important, but suddenly having a stretch 4 who could play defense was important.
doesn’t if the dude is color blind. Toyota center f’d him up. He was lights out on the road his first year and dog sh*t at home. Probably blew his confidence and ruined him. Don’t know what it was about TC but he could never get it going here.
Defense is also about effort thought pretty sure if he busted his ass on the court he'd have been better defensively. I can sympathize with Anderson but at the end of the day he is a grown ass man and was already put in the best possible situation for him to succeed. He needed to man up and he didn't.
He is a grown ass man dude its his own responsibility to keep his own confidence up, he has million to go get therapy and a shrink if he really needed it. If he couldnt get it going he should've locked himself in Toyota center during the summer like House did during his first year here.
I think he's still better than Gary Clark. My guess is this to accommodate Ryan who wants to play at least a few minutes for another team.
It was an emotional signing by a GM that sometimes gets sentimental, hopefully said GM will resist the need to be sentimental and practice what he prechhes..... You know, Analytics.
Maybe, i mean, defense is absolutely also about effort, no question, but for me i don't know if the guy didn't try hard enough, i think he actually did but the truth is just that he has always been a very bad defender (which is the main reason why i didn't like his signing).
He is 6'8 bro if Steph Curry and Steve Nash can be below average defenders despite being little guards he can be one too. He has always been a bad defender cuz he was always lazy on defense and didn't work on his game like Melo. If he tried as hard as Ryan Bowen he'd still be on an NBA team somewhere.
