LOL Beltran is a real one. Never in my wildest dreams would I have imagined I would ever be this down with Beltran after the 05 debacle.
So let me get this straight: A player that struggled in the second half of the 2017 season so mightily that he lost his spot in the Astros’ starting rotation and didn’t make the playoff roster (Mike Fiers) and a former Astros beat writer that claims the team tried to get him fired (Evan Drellich) are key figures in this piece. Shocking. No axes to grind here or anything.
Altuve is a man of God. I want to hear him say it never happened. Then, I will take him at his word and lay it to rest if he says the claims are false. I can accept old school methods of sign stealing but a clear violation of the written rules using cameras and monitors is not my idea of playing clean, fair baseball. I would be disappointed about it. And, I would accept whatever punishment it requires. The idea that some players on the team would not know it is going on when and if it was....I'm not buying that. Either everyone knew or it didn't happen. Therefore, either the whole team is going to lie about it or be busted on it.
If there was any doubt on who won the Milwaukee Gomez trade, it should be removed now. Fiers used to give me comfort when I thought of that trade.
"Astros legend!" Only here for 1.5 seasons, but BOY did he make them count. Beltran is on Houston's good side 100% once again (if he wasn't already after 2017) DESPISE the Patriots and Warriors (and will continue to), but now I know what it's like to be a fan of those teams. All three of us were sorry franchises for a long time, suddenly got good, and now have to face stuff like this. Hopefully, we join them in getting multiple rings! My takeaway is that this is a league-wide thing and not unique to us. I do believe that Belichick spied on opponents throughout Brady's initial runs (01-07), but at the same time, it sounds like many other teams did it as well. Two wrongs may not make a right, but you have to treat all cases equally, and if you go after one offender, you have to go after all.
I would venture a guess that Fiers is going to have a hard time showing his face in public in Houston going forward. Yikes!
Should be fun the next time he starts a game against the Astros in Houston. Wouldn't mind getting tickets myself.
Take away all of next seasons draft picks and the 2017 WS will still be worth it. Any MLB team would take that
Hopefully, he gets rocked like he did during his last start in Houston this season. One inning, nine hits, and nine earned runs.
Yeah I don’t think the Astros would be that dumb and seems extremely shortsighted knowing players come and go. Just doesn’t make sense.
“Men of god” are the biggest scumbags I’ve met usually. Really means nothing at all other than someone trying to take the moral high ground.
