All 1-year deals: Miller $3.4M Oswalt $3.25M Dotel $2.8M No long term deals yet, as all 3 have things to prove this season. No acrimonious arbitration hearings, either, which shouldn't be underestimated. http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/sports/2361336
From a business standpoint, that's excellent! From a fan standpoint, I would've liked to see something with Oswalt.
Oswalt is still tied to the arbitration process next season, so I suspect he'll get his big multi-year deal once he shows that he is over his groin problems.
Players gain free agency rights after 6 years of MLB service time. They become arbitration eligible after 3 seasons. Not sure about Dotel, as he pitched in 19 games (85+ IP) in '99 for the Mets. If '99 counts, and I assume it does, then '04 is his 6th season & he's a FA after this year.
How does Miller get paid more than Oswalt? Just a curious thought as Oswalt is a hell of lot of Miller...
