Many years ago, I took my mom and dad on a golf trip to Ireland and Scotland. The last course we went to was St. Andrews and we got there a day before our tee-time (I bought a package so no lottery). We decided to walk down to the road hole which abuts the 1st hole. We were standing on the road close to the bridge over the burne that cuts across 1 and 17. Suddenly we noticed a bunch of helicopters and a huge crownd up by the clubhouse. We watched several really nice drives down the middle. Much to our surprise Bill Clinton and his entourage were walking down the 1st hole. A secret service man scooted over next to us (mom, dad, me) and said "don't even think about it". He shook hands and signed a golf ball for the guys coming up 17 and then promptly hit his second shot into the burne. Much to his credit he dropped out of the burne, knocked it up on the green and two putted for a six. The next day the local newspaper posted his scorecard. He "shot" a 72 on the Old Course, with a 4 on the first hole. Typical Bill Clinton. Kind of like Kim Jung Yun hitting 18 straight hole in ones. My mom and dad are both deceased now, but that moment was one of the best of their lives. Thanks Bill for the laugh.
Ha. Just random. I was thinking about watching the Open that my dad really loved and the memory sprang forth.
Nice story. I feel sorry for whover was playing in the group behind him Need to make a golf trip like that one of these days
