Casspi is not a good defender but he can hold his own, good size (6.9'), 40% from 3, good rebounder and perfect for this system. But I reckon the Cavs will snatch him first. They have showed interest and have 2 open roster spots. A playoff team will get him for sure. I'd love it to be us. Even if he doesn't play, just as insurance backup for Anderson.
Are we just gonna ignore the fact that Casspi becomes Trashpi when he's playing real minutes on a real team??!?! Do some of y'all even remember how crappy he played in his last stint here?!?!
Regardless of your thoughts on Dekker or Casspi, I think that's too big of a change to make to the rotation this late in the game for the playoffs. We're having enough trouble integrating Lou, and he's a ****ing perfect fit for us on paper.
You guys back to hating Dekker... He needs to just take it to the rim every time. Use the athleticism.
I said it earlier in the season. Dekker is going to be absolutely useless in this years playoffs. Won't expect anything out of him. Don't know if Casspi is the answer. We're going to war with this roster. I'm ok with that. Dekker won't see many minutes come playoffs but frankly if our fate is determined by our 9th man we've got way bigger problems.
I said it before and i will repeat it again, Ariza not new brewer, Dekker is. Basically brewer 2.0 . High energy player that can finish/defend well, but can't shoot any threes to save his life. It's like he lost his shooting touch.
Either he's being told to strictly stick to his role or he's not comfortable. He can drive with the best of them but always passes back or stays still when he has a perfect cut opportunity! He seriously passed on 5 open cuts today!
Casspi CAN NOT play the 3 in the NBA, and he has a tendency to start thinking he's James Harden on offense and defense. Might as well put Gordon at the 3 if you don't care about defense at all. Which is what we're doing at the moment. Dekker is as good a 4 as Casspi, and Dekker is a rookie who's rights we own for the next 2 years. If Casspi had been half the the hustle player Sam is right now, he would have a nice contract and a better career right now. Except that Dekker is slumping right now, his confidence has bottomed out. This is the worst Dekker will ever be, and Casspi has already had a stretch this bad for the Rockets in the past. Why on earth would we sign Casspi? Just doesn't make sense. This team is not lacking shooting at all. It's lacking defense - specifically, athletic defenders at the forward spots. For the bench, we're better off signing a defensive player who can't shoot over a shooter who can't defend since that person is only going to be used situationally and we are FAR more often in a situation where we can use some defense at the forward spots for 5-10 minutes. This is probably why we signed Troy Williams to a 10-day, to see if he can occupy that spot. I honestly can't think of a worse waste of a roster spot than Casspi right now. You could play Gordon at the 3 or Anderson MORE at the 4 and you would get better results without even over-stretching minutes.
Corey Brewer shot just 23% from 3. Dekker is a little under 32%. The difference between Dekker to Brewer is the same difference between Ryan Anderson to Dekker. Thats how BAD Brewer was, Dekker isnt Brewer bad. Dekker hasnt been good past the All-Star break (Brewer like) Though he did have a kick-ass February shooting .490 and .375% 3's. He's still at .471 overall. Trevor Ariza just went through TWO months of shooting 35% and 30% 3's as one of the HIGHEST volume 3pt shooters in the LEAGUE. If anything last month was Dekker bailing Ariza's bricking ass out. Dekker hasnt proven himself with trust like Ariza, and Dekker's 3 point shot looks bad. But maybe Dekker can get back into better form.
Sam will be fine when he finds his shot again. (He's shooting 9% from three in March and 26% since All-Star). I wouldn't hate having Casspi here but it would be a very marginal upgrade, and it's not like he's going to guard Lebron well either. Remember that when he was here a solid portion of CF literally nicknamed him Trashpi, so it's not like there's some golden version of Casspi we remember. He's a talented but exasperating player who never sticks to his strengths.
