I can't envision a scenario where Hollins would be the best candidate in Morey's eyes. The guy was fired from Memphis specifically because he hated analytics. I'm sure Morey wants a guy who is willing to accept the analytic information Morey brings to them. Joerger, Vogel, and JVG are all guys who will look at the numbers. Hollins will not.
[rquoter]Joerger will likely succeed wherever he goes. The most likely landing spots are Sacramento and Houston, and both are good fits for him. Sacramento gives him an elite post player, which he can build an offense around, and a younger core to do it with. If hired by Vlade Divac, he's likely to have a greater input into personnel decisions. There's the standard caveat that this is the Kings, and they're insane as a collective organization, but among the available candidates, Joerger is the best hire they can find. Meanwhile, the Rockets need a forward-thinking coach that can balance offense and defense, and Joerger is definitely that guy. While Frank Vogel is just as good of a coach, he's offensively less forward-thinking, and the Rockets need help on both sides of the ball. Additionally, Vogel had trouble with chemistry issues in the locker room in 2013 while Joerger has managed to get the team through tough times. The team started to come apart at the seams in 2015, only to smack the Blazers in the first round and then push Golden State in Round 2. He's likely to succeed in either situation. This won't affect Mike Conley's free agency. Conley wasn't particularly close with Joerger. He was successful under him, and will only say good things about him in the days and weeks to come. But this is not a situation where Joerger signs with the Kings and suddenly Conley wants to follow him. Conley was just as much a part of the team's resistance to Joerger's advanced offensive concepts as anyone, and the team will of course consult with Conley as to what he wants in a coach should he decide to re-sign in Memphis. In short, if Conley was going to leave, he's still going to leave, and if Conley planned to stay, he's still going to stay. http://www.cbssports.com/nba/eye-on...zlies-relieve-dave-joerger-of-coaching-duties[/rquoter]
Reports are that Joerger had constant disagreements with management and the players weren't entirely on board with his system...
No. Everyone keeps naming this defensive-minded, slow down coaches. We need an offensive minded coach that runs a motion offense. It is the way the league is going. Unless Morey is going to actually get 2-3 of the top 8-10 best players in the NBA right now, it is the only way to have a legit shot at a title.
He is a coach that does more with less. Just the opposite of our last two coaches. While I would be happy with Vogel or JVG as a consolation prize, I'd want Joerger as my first choice. Hopefully we aren't too careful or deliberate and someone else (Kings) grabs him first.
Don't get your hopes up...Rockets ALWAYS miss out! Joerger will sign with Kings. Vogel will sign with Knicks and JVG will stay retired!
haha, the mess getting messier. i give up. whoever les and morey hire. its not like we'd be contenders with harden at the helm anyway.
http://www.usatoday.com/story/sport.../dave-joerger-fired-grizzlies-kings/84068712/ And Daryl said their number one priority above else is defense. | Daryl Morey says improving defense a priority for new coach Jeff Van Gundy. Frank Vogel. Dave Joerger. Lionel Hollins. Tom Thibodeau. Hmmm, it's probably no coincidence they're all defensive guys first.
