Watching this the best comparison to Capela is Mutumbo. It's scary how similar they look blocking shots. Both tall with long arms. Capela has better offensive skills though
I didn't notice the weight gain at first, but I watched his preseason highlights and then watched some of his highlights from last season. He's clearly bulked up a ton. He looked so slight of frame last year. He'll be so much stronger this season.
One thing I am noticing is that Capela's ability to roll to the basket is drawing defensive attention such that pick and rolls with him are leading to a lot of Brewer and Ariza open corner threes. Teams know how lethal the oops to Capela can be, so they are bringing wings into the paint to assist, but that is leading to the only thing the Rockets like more than dunks, and that is open 3's for Ariza. With Lawson and Harden utilizing Capela and Howard in pick and rolls and defenses reacting accordingly, Ariza's is going to get so many open corner 3's that his percentage should start more resembling what he was putting up in Washington the season before last.
You can see how many open shots we've got in the preseason. I can't wait to have Thornton in tight game situations just camping there waiting to bomb it ala Ray Allen for the Heat. Speaking of Brewer - I am LOVING the plays they seem to be incorporating that have a lot of action around the key only for Brewer to cut straight through off a pick right to the hoop
Capela is ready to be a starter, has me a lot less worried about Howard potentially missing 40 to 60% of games this year.
Clint Capela so far: In 18.9 MPG: 8.6 PPG, 6.6 RPG, 1.9 BPG 79.4% FG 60% FT And his PER is an insane 26.07 currently
Capela is looking great! I can't wait to have a healthy DMO back to help him with his offensive game.
