Then blame Tilman if you feel like the Rockets aren't putting enough resources towards improving. Hiding behind the "fan card" is just a security blanket that doesn't actually protect you from how franchises operate and how hard it is to actually compete (aka reality).
No it doesnt I literally said Tillman may have gave him the win now directive but going about that is the GM's job. Now youre relying on strawman arguments. What is it with fanboys on this forum. Just post the proof of what youre saying and it would be over. Im not beyond changing my mind with new information. If you have some I would agree with you. Im not some Stone hater. I dont hate the man personally but looking at what he's done as a GM I think he should be fired. He has made some stupid decisions and I think its better if we move on.
LOL. What can I say.... still crying about KPJ, Dipo, and Woods in 2026 just tells me that particular poster is a bit too emotional to talk about the Rockets. Hating Stone is your security blanket so you don't have to deal with reality. This is literally me:
Those are things he did. We are looking at the totality of his work. Im not seeing how looking at his work is emotional but you attacking everyone somehow isnt.
You think when given a direction... Stone gets to ultimately make decisions involving who to sign? Did you think Morey had the same ability with Les?
Literally every GM makes a bunch of mistakes, so you are saying the KPJ/Dipo/Wood year prevented us from what exactly? Landing Cunningham or Wemby? What?
An NBA General Manager (GM) is the chief architect of the team's on-court product, responsible for constructing the roster, managing the salary cap, and hiring the coaching staff. They dictate the franchise's long-term competitive vision. That's the literal definition of a GM. Again if you have proof that he doesnt have GM powers as a GM show it.
GM's get fired to. Also, Another strawman stop trying to tell me what my argument is I never said anything about Wemby lol Again you fanboys fall in love with someone and will pull anything out your ass to defend them.
There is no use of having a GM if he can’t make decisions. I think more than likely he is a bit of a p***y and won’t stand up to Ime. If Fertita won’t hire a GM and stay out of the basketball operations, this team will never get it right.
An NBA owner (officially referred to as a Governor) is responsible for financing their franchise, overseeing its general business operations, and representing the team on the NBA Board of Governors. While some owners are deeply hands-on, most delegate daily basketball operations to General Managers (GMs) and coaching staffs. If you have some proof that shows Stone believed that Woods and Dipo were long term Rocket moves then show it.
But you are whining about KPJ, Dipo, and Wood..... why? What does it matter when you know even the best GMs like Presti make many mistakes?
Way too much personification going on. Multiple things can be true: Stone is an above average GM. We have mostly made sharper moves than most of the league. We are in a strong position asset wise. We've had a fair amount of bad luck, and little good luck. This era of Rockets basketball has failed to produce any tangible success. It will most likely fail again next season. In the NBA, eras that sum up to three straight first round exits typically result in the team/coaching staff/FO getting turned over. Good GM's and coaches get fired all the time. Just part of the cycle.
I think you're trying to piss me off so that we can sling mud and not have a real discussion because your point is paper thin. You didn't even know what a gms duties are and finally you don't want to compare stone to sam presti trust me that would be a huge mistake. You're the only one here being whiny and emotional clearly it's projecting. You're also very insecure which is why you're so defensive. It's because you know some posts here are right. If stone is such a pushover why would I want him here? Even more reason he should be gone.
Stone has been lucky since his first season . His luck has run out . Time to see what he is made of / get a new GM . I remain a rockets fan , but the league itself is hopeless . Gambling , bad reffing , rigid salary structure , are the clippers getting punished at all? The best chance at winning in the league is getting lucky and /or having the refs in your favor. Udoka is not Jesus , but Stone should have known. It makes sense we had a good regular season last year , we were a young - hungry team playing hard for a good defensive coach. What are we next year that will win ? Contend ? Make it look like we have a plan ? We have what Daryl Morey would call assets , and have a fairly high degree of flexibility . I don't think fans are too emotionally attached to any player right now . All our young guys have their warts , and jaesean tate can't even get PT (I still think he's great ) You can look at FVV stats and say he's a decent player , but not great . And then you could say hey FVV won a title and led a 2 seed before he got hurt , so he's a heck of a player . Of course , he's coming off injury . But who do we want ? Stone can't play the youth card again . He has to retool or stand pat , or big shakeup . But he can't punt for draft picks with a young guy . Even if he though that would be the best option
You want Stone fired..... You have brought up his moves during his first two years in regards to KPJ, Wood, and Dipo. I think that's pretty weak evidence for the case for firing Stone. Sounds pretty silly doesn't it? What other, better evidence you got it? Reed over Castle?
Morey still had to go to Les to get the ultimate approval, it's the nature of the business. The way Morey explained it on podcasts/interviews is that he would provide Les options. I would imagine Morey and most GMs aren't getting approval for the end of the bench of roster spots or minor hires.
Im well on record as saying the KD trade would be a disaster. Im also well on record as saying he's a terrible GM for not getting a point guard during a trade deadline FULL OF POINT GUARDS in a year where you desperately needed one after going all in on a 37 year old who cant pass out of double teams. Finally I didnt call for him to be fired in the first tWo years so as I said before we are looking at the totality of his work. I think its fair to look at a full body of work and judge on that. I think when you put it all together he's a subpar GM. We can and should do better. Its not working with him.
I agree with all this except for your first bullet. I believe Stone is average at best. Just because he’s not totally incompetent doesn’t mean he’s good. I think fans deserve and should expect better. I can’t do another season like last season. I can’t deal with sitting out back to back good drafts when we still need to be taking swings on young talent. I can’t listen to another stone gaslighting press conference. I’m just counting down until this thread title becomes a reality.
