...where I'm from, that's called picking a fight and complaining about getting hit. Those people tend to not be good fighters anyway...but I admit that beating up on them offered a perverse sort of satisfaction. --mdrowe00
...yeah. "Mental Illness" is the new vogue "term" or corner for people like this to hide in or behind. Call it whatever you want (indoctrination, brainwashing, desperation, nationalism, et al)—these people know exactly what they're doing. Vicious contempt does not equate to debilitating cognitive reasoning impairment. --mdrowe00
They run behind any issue they can find instead of confronting the truth. That White Supremacy is on the rise and that it is too easy for people to get guns. So "Mental Illness" and "Video Games" are easy to blame.
You're right...the children at Sandy Hook were exactly who something like that WASN'T supposed to happen to...and our government did nothing and citizens make idiotic excuses...mdrowe00
...exactly. Smart people (scientists, for example) know better than to argue or debate with someone who argues from a false or misleading premise...whether that's intentional or not...because all you eventually wind up doing is legitimizing a faulty or flawed idea. Lies need the truth more than the truth needs a lie. --mdrowe00
Yep They all work the same way. Ancient Aliens, Flat Earth, Anti-vaxxers, whatever the theory is it is always on the basis that you shouldn't trust the data and proof that you've probably seen before. Once you stop believing in the truth then you can believe in practically anything.
...Yep. At some point, it is what it is with some people. I get (especially on the internet) the need to at least counter a falsehood (for the record if nothing else)...but what anybody should hope for in a conversation with someone is candor. Believe it when someone tells you what they don't care about...especially when they tell you why. --mdrowe00
What actually disturbs me more than Bobby's opinion is that all the other right-wing posters let him get away with it unchallenged really. I was just trying to show the ridiculousness of the position he took. That's why I kept tagging the others just to see if maybe...maybe...one of them would call him out on it.
...umm...and if wishes were horses...but the right thing to do (or say) is enough on its own. Don't lament those who don't stand up for what's right...thank them for making their position clear to you. It's always better to know, believe me. --mdrowe00
Also, It's like pulling teeth trying to get them to condemn a racist group without throwing in some other group (like BLM) and play the 'both sides' argument. One thing I've learned is that a lot of conservatives here see things as black and white and there is no context or nuance in between. Arguing here and trying to find the root to their thinking usually comes down to that.
...Tamir Rice, all of 12 years old, made the mistake of playing with a toy gun in a Cleveland Ohio park...and paid for it with his life. And people on this board found ample reason to blame him and not the policeman who shot him dead within 10 seconds of arriving on the scene. What a tightrope black people have to walk. --mdrowe00
There was also Brock Turner, who raped a girl but didn't get a harder sentence because of his potential 'future'. Lots of people don't seem to be too concerned about the potential future of kids like Tamir Rice
...actually, I think MLK got this quote (or a variation of it) from the Poem Dante's Inferno: "The hottest places in Hell are reserved for those who in a period of moral crisis maintain their neutrality"...worthwhile people follow worthwhile causes... Selah. --mdrowe00
Worthwhile people tend to follow worthwhile causes. Equivocation of methodology is the enemy here. Too many people try to make this about opposing viewpoints--this is about opposing VIEWS. well said. --mdrowe00
On that video I clicked the little cog and then clicked 'share' and copied the embed code. A lot of videos will have a 'share' thing and then you'll see 'embed' and just copy that code.
