Hard to judge anything without knowing who these guys are being replaced with. It is interesting that they are firing assistants before the HC's fate has been decided. Could it be that Tilman is so damn cheap that he wants MDA to quit rather than get fired, because that saves him money?
I saw Roy on Trigger, and Dale Evans on whatever nag she was riding, take an @Easy ride around the rail of the Sam Houston Coliseum. Trigger winked at me, I swear he did!
https://www.chron.com/sports/rocket...y-Rogers-won-t-return-to-Rockets-13893725.php Rockets assistant coach Roy Rogers will not be back with the team next season, his agent Warren LeGarie said Friday, making Rogers the second assistant on Mike D'Antoni's staff for the past three seasons that will not be offered a new contract. The contracts for Rogers and Jeff Bzdelik, who had been the Rockets' associate head coach, are up at the end of the month. D'Antoni has one season remaining on his contract, the team option that the Rockets picked up before the season. LeGarie said the uncertainty about D'Antoni's contract beyond this season gave Rogers, 45, reason to consider other options, though he said that the Rockets had not offered a deal to bring him back. "We have interest from other clubs because he is a good coach," LeGarie said. "We don't want to come back on a one-year deal. We made it clear that was not an option." Rockets owner Tilman Fertitta said last week that D'Antoni would be back next season, though D'Antoni has been clear that he wants to continue coaching for three more seasons. Barring an agreement on an extension beyond D'Antoni's original four-year contract, the search for assistant coaches with Bzdelik and Rogers gone could be complicated by uncertainty about D'Antoni.
I don't think that's the case. Not that we have a chance at Butler, but even if Thibs did find his way here... Jimmy stated more than once that he still had a world of respect for Thibs, while on his way out. I'm pretty sure that wouldn't be a defector as to why he wouldn't sign (trade first) here.
It is awfully odd to whack the favorite, and in Rogers's case hand-picked, assistants to the head coach, if Management was planning on keeping said head coach. Especially when the current head coach is in the last year of his deal, has gone public with his desire to have an extension in place before the season starts, and ownership has not given that extension and further, has talked about the advanced age of the coach. You might be onto something. Which would be pathetic on Rockets ownership, and wouldn't suggest a willingness to freely spend to get better.
We don't know that he was "whacked." His agent says the Rox were delaying on extending him (probably waiting to see what happens with MDA's proposed extension) and that Roy decided to pursue other offers he's getting instead of waiting.
No. The rockets didn’t offer him a contract. The agent is spinning it in a positive light by saying they have other options and what not, but this is simple. The rockets made it clear at the end of the season they were making changes to Dantonis staff.
I guess Trigger and Bullet are next! Seriously, I really liked him. He gave good interviews. Also, a snappy dresser.
I had every Roy Rogers product that could be purchased: lunch kit, cup, guns, holster, shirt, pants, hat.....
