I’ll go with the rookie rather than the 2nd year player.

If you consider Simmons a rookie, it's him.

    What makes you say that?

You don't think a guy being the go-to man for his team, in his rookie year, is going to be a standout player?

Easier to get the accolades in the East than the West

    Ben Simmons

I don’t even get the point in mentioning that Simmons is in his second season when he is still eligible in the voting

Only if we ignore the fact that he spent the better part of a year traveling with, training with, and learning from an NBA team. It makes a difference.

Give it to Mitchell but Simmons is still a better prospect. IMHO.

Not every ROY is going to become a Superstar anyway.

Tyreke never contended for a championship, learned how to become a champion. Surprised he did not join the Celtics.....

It's not a runaway, but given that he's eligible, it's no question Simmons.

    16.6, 7.7, 7.4 with 1.8 steals and nearly a block a game.

Can't shoot from deep but has same TS% as Mitchell on slightly lower scoring. Better PER. Better, more versatile defender. And better record.

All that said, unless Simmons learns to hit a three, if Mitchell improves, specifically in a way similar to Harden has as a playmaker, so that he is mid 20's in scoring AND can get his assists up to 6+, which I definitely think is possible, than he'll catch up to whatever Simmons becomes.

What kind of training can he really do if he is injured?

Also while he can learn from an NBA team he didn't spend a year on the court, and since he is coming back from an injury and possibly his first major injury ever he had to deal with rust and the mental aspect which didn't bother Mitchell.

It is all even I doubt Simmons had any edge over Mitchell he might have even had it harder.

Simmons should be ROY simply because he is eligible and is better than Mitchell. Just on the defensive aspect alone he should be better, if Simmons learns to shoot he will be Lebron Jr.

But why should that disqualify him if the NBA doesn't? Should we disqualify Harden from the MVP over Giannis since he's had a few more years in the league than him?

The thread title asks who will win rookie of the year. Simmons is eligible to win it. That's all that matters. Anything else is pee-pee games.
