Thought this was interesting. The Houston Rockets were the third most profitable team in the NBA last year. The Chinese market must make a huge difference. The Nets also lost 144 million dollars which is pretty insane. http://grantland.com/the-triangle/g...e-jason-kidd-mess-has-a-144-million-pricetag/
Keep in mind that all of that was without a proper local TV deal in place. One would assume that getting the games shown in 75-100% of the local market would make a significant difference.
I would argue that having any more salary last year would have been a hindrance this year. I don't think Les can be accused for not spending enough personally. This year with free agents signing first and then Parsons second, we could easily see a luxury team. Just wasn't practical last year.
At least it wasn't like the Astros being the most profitable MLB team ever because of dirt paid players
The Rockets did not have to pay into the luxury tax but they did not get a check either. Dallas, Philly, Boston, Toronto, GSW, LAC all finished behind the Rockets, why?
I'm sure the rockets are more profitable than the average franchise, but I bet if all salaries were equal, the rockets would be closer to the 10-13 range in profit. I not complaining about spending, he'll spend when necessary, but it just seems obvious that this is a little misleading to suggest the Rockets are a top money maker.
We had two max players on the payroll last year and are trying to add another. And we are trying to keep Chandler Parsons at market value. I'm glad the Rox are profitable, but look for this figure to decrease sharply next year.
Dallas spent 15 million more on payroll, Boston spent 14 million more, GS spent 13 million more, Clippers spent 16 million more, Toronto spent 14 million more.
Hilarious that OKC is so profitable, yet too poor to keep Harden. I hope you're paying attention, KD.
Where are you getting your numbers? per Shamsports: Payroll for 2013/2014 Houston $63.9 millioin Dallas $67.3 million Boston $70.6 million Golden State $71.5 million LAClippers $72.6 million Toronto $68.8 million Of those teams only Clippers were tax payers as they exceeded the Tax Threshold by less then 1 million dollars. The difference between Houston's salary and the other teams does not match the difference in profitability. Imagine if the Rockets were actually aired on a Network where everyone could watch!
