Talk about the series here. Please no PBP in this thread. Unless otherwise noted all games are on CSN-H (for about 40% I guess). 5-5 Jarred Cosart, RHP vs. Max Scherzer, RHP 6:08 5-6 Brett Oberholtzer, LHP vs. Robbie Ray, LHP 6:08 5-7 Brad Peacock, RHP vs. Rick Porcello, RHP 6:08 5-8 Dallas Keuchel, LHP vs. Drew Smyly, LHP 12:08 MLBN
Take out Cosart's trainwreck 0.1ip/7er fiasco against Oakland and his ERA would be 3.52. Not actually half bad.
Wish they would have given Ausmus a chance to manage... not that he would have agreed to manage this train wreck. Glad he's got a good thing up in Detroit. Best team in baseball vs. the worst tonight.
Guess he didn't want to have to interview... or he knew he'd get a better opportunity elsewhere. Anyways, I'm glad he's doing well... many here criticized his work ethic and whether or not he'd want to put in the extra hours to be a successful manager. He's certainly got a great mind for the game, and he's shown the ability to be able to handle egos.
To be clear, he did interview with the Astros and gave the obligatory kind comments about Crane and Luhnow. It was after the interview that he withdrew from consideration. I have always been an Ausmus fan, so I am glad he wound up in what appears to be a good situation.
Does that still count as a base-running mistake for Altuve? (strikes out on a hit and run... ends the inning). Really not a fan of that call in a 1 run game in the 8th inning against a pitcher who's thrown 110+ pitches, and one of your "best" hitters on deck.
He had virtually zero lead off second... with all those fake pick-offs that Scherzer was showing. Even more reason not to potentially send the runners there.
I'd be real curious to see where Gonzalez would finish in a race with the guys he pinch runs for. He has never seemed to have anything other than mediocre speed.
The fact that he couldn't even go 1st to 3rd on a seeing eye ground ball tells me all I need to know about his "speed".
And yet he was still wavering, on the ropes... and Fowler already had a hit off him. Its a 1 run game! I wouldn't understand that call even if we had a lineup full of contact guys who rarely strike out (which we don't).
Lets add up all the CS'ing and count them as runs.... Astros take the lead! "I'm paying you to get on first, not get thrown out at second."
Interesting to see if there is anything in the rule book which specifically addresses the tag on Fowler. The ball was clearly in the SS hand and was clearly not in the glove, however, the hand was against the glove. Does the ball being in the hand "transfer" to the glove it is touching?
