Kind of hypocritical to sign a player who was part of the worst thing to happen to baseball in its entire history.

Never been a fan of Tucker. He is anything but consistent in the majors, streaky. It is a long season and consistency is king.

Yup. Real easy to say someone is streaky when they've only had 131 AB's across two years in the majors.

The Astros were loaded in the outfield and with the emergence of Alvarez, he wasn't needed to come up.

If he had shown half of what Alvarez did, I think at the very least, we ramp up talks in moving Reddick.

They tried to move Reddick the last 2 offseasons. His contract isn't moveable without eating a bunch of money or throwing in prospects we can't afford to lose. He also was coming off shoulder surgery this offseason making him even harder to trade.

My thought was, we would have been more aggressive at it if we had a 2nd Alvarez waiting in the wings. Eat the money. And if were talking last year, moving Jake then would have made sense, and been easier also.

The Astros had several scenarios in mind. They wanted to move Reddick this year to free up cash to possibly bring back Harris or make a run at a starter (trade or free agency). They also were trying to move Reddick and bring in Pence so they would have a Pence/Tucker platoon situation. Once the cheating stuff came out it was dead in the water. They still tried to bring Pence in but didn't want to guarantee him a contract like what the Giants gave him with Reddick still on the roster.

Astros have a great team with OFs as good as him or better, and don't want to deal with a rookie going through what most rookies go through?

Maybe they tried to move Reddick and didn't get any quality offers?

OR the whole cheating scandal screwed any moves that were trying to be made in January.

They are not going to get a quality offer for Reddick

his contract is upside down, they just couldn’t find anyone to take his contact, or most of it, without giving up a prospect

The only way they were ever going to trade Reddick after last season was by including him in a larger deal or swapping him for another bad contract.

Assuming Tucker pans out and the other OF stay healthy, I could still see Reddick paired with a 2nd tier prospect and traded for an overpaid reliever at the deadline.

If they haven't traded him before the deadline, they'd probably be better off just DFAing him (if warranted). They would likely have to eat his salary anyway or include a better prospect to get a team to take him off their hands.
