I don't know if I'd call Blum great, but Ashby is definitely painful. The only thing worse than Ashby being your Color guy, is that he be your Play-by-Play guy. They need to let Ashby go, and they need Bill Brown to go on the road or find a new Play-by-Play man, IMO.
I'd say Blum is about where JD was when he first started... maybe even a little wittier earlier. I doubt he'd get to JD's peak, but he's still entertaining enough to be the everyday color guy. Agreed on Ashby... he's got no business being a pbp guy, and he's now not even the best color guy they have at their disposal. I think its Bill Brown's choice to no longer go on the road as much, so they'd have to hire somebody new.
Nitro really doesn't look sharp, missing spots badly. Not to make excuses, but he hasn't pitched in 12 days. For a guy that relies on feel, that may be a factor.
Blum and Brown were pretty much really ok the few games I heard them together this year. Anything would be better than Ashby, literally anything. HAL9000 deadpan reading the chronicle and espn comments would be better.
