https://www.miamiherald.com/sports/spt-columns-blogs/barry-jackson/article226132985.html Anderson, 30, has received no assurances about playing time. But he disputes any notion that his skills have diminished, even though his playing time has decreased since averaging 17.0 points for New Orleans in 2015-16 and 13.6 for Houston in 2016-17. “I know that’s something people say, but it couldn’t be more false,” he said. “I’ve gone from teams where I shot 14, 15 shots a game to six or seven shots. My last year in Houston, I got injured and then I didn’t play. I was getting maybe six shots a game that season. This year, there was no consistency in playing time. “I’m a role player. That’s why I fit really well into this system. I’m not a one-on-one player. I’ve been on two teams the past two years in Phoenix and my last year in Houston where it’s all one-on-ones. My game is shooting the ball, pick and pop.” He said he can seize on mismatches in the post, but “I probably had a handful of postups the past two years. It’s a bit frustrating when people say [his skills have declined].”
Yes Houston is a one on one team, but all he was asked to do was park his ass on the perimeter and shoot threes. Pick and pop was another element incorporated into our offense. He would of gotten more shots in Houston if he had Gerald Green's IDGAF mentality. Instead he hesitated on a lot of wide open shots. His defense was somewhat passable, it was him losing his confidence that ruined his stay here in Houston, otherwise he still would of been playing here.
How da hell did Ryno not work out with us. He was half decent his first season too. He's theoretically the perfect player for the system on paper
He’s basically saying his game wasnt incorporated in the offense here. However he was good the first year here just taking his 3s off the dish. Something changed
"My skills have not declined", said every NBA player over 35 ever. Anderson's just a little ahead of the curve.
It isn't your skills that have declined, Mr. Anderson. It is the fear that lives in your brain, fear on full display here when we needed you most. I don't know what happened to you inside, but I wish you luck. You need it.
I blame harden and dantoni for not incorporating this wonderfull player and most of all fartita for being cheap
I won't blame all of it on him. The stretch 4 position is dying. With switching defenses, versatility is more important at the 4 these days. Even if he shot with confidence, he would be a liability.
If I remember correctly, he did a monster slam and was never the same afterwards. Maybe just a coincidence.
Wait, since when did Houston ask him to be a one-on-one player?? His whole job was to pick-and-pop while he was here. That whole strategy goes out the window when you refuse to POP, Ryan.
Size without athleticism has become useless because now everyone runs a perimeter-oriented offense. The irony is that the offense that best suits Ryno is one that he can't defend against.
