Why Arizona traded away a good left handed reliever when they are in a wild card hunt?

Hamels, 5.93 ERA with the Rangers, and will not pitch tonight due to groin injury.

Well, Rangers, you have your guy there.

Sad if true. Basically an admission that they botched the non waiver trade deadline and are in extreme desperation mode.

I'll just repost my thoughts from before since they fell off and were before this was a possibility

@conquistador--I'd be fine with 2014 Utley also

I'd be okay with it. We can hope for a Lidge situation... Change of scenery leading to a championship.

Yes, half the contending teams are interested, but we're the stupid desperate ones.

I don't recall, what 1B/DH types were moved at the deadline?

Well, you're putting words into my mouth buddy.

But by your silly math, I guess that would make the other half of the contending teams stupid.

    Another Phillie will spurn Houston.
Not sure they'd really "miss" missing on Utley.

This could be just to drive the price up for the Angels. If they end up getting him cheap, why not add a veteran whose been through the playoffs?

So, the Astros acquire two very able starters and a good center fielder, yet they botched the trade deadline? Most pundits give them an A, but what do they know.

Lets end this speculative talk till we see if they actually make a desperation move like trading for the ghost of chase utley at the aug 31 trade deadline to play him at 1st base, mmkay?

I'd like him to come here but there's no chance he'll waive his no trade clause to play first and DH when he could play 2B for another contender.

You're the one that said they botched the Non-waiver trade deadline. How exactly did they do that? They acquire three competent starters prior to the non-waiver trade deadline and you said they botched it. There is no speculation involved.
