I'm not a DC guy but Green Lantern has always been my favorite DC character. His power is based on willpower so in theory he could be the strongest hero in the DC universe. He can also make whatever he wants, including green lambos.
I really think Green Lantern could be a great movie to reboot. And I kinda liked the original movie they just messed up with the villain. Justice League messed up by not including a GL.
Now that I think about it, its surprising that HBO has taken this long to get into the super hero game. I am looking forward to see what a good budget can do for a tv superhero show. That CW stuff just looks to cheesy but I did like some of the supergirl stuff.
Just don't know. Green Lantern was such a bomb, and I mean I can't find anything redeeming about the movie at all, not even one scene, that's it's hard to envision they can recover. It was all over the place. Think when you go big like Green Lantern has to do, given the scope the characters and the universes, you almost need to develop some additional mystery character like that collecter dude in Guardians of the Galaxy. They need to find a way to dial it down to characters and their personal journey because the plots are too epic in nature. My recommendation would be to keep it simple, slow it down, and take me on a journey like the Mandalorian. I wouldn't just give him the ring. Make him earn it or stumble into the hero world based on his choices. It is funny though that the movie was so bad that fans would actually find it endearing to see the actors re-merge in the new cuts. And I think I would count myself as one of them. The deadpool scene, hilarious.
I'm not a DC guy, but Geoff Johns reboot of GL comics was pretty good. Was totally hyped when I heard he was creative producer for the movie... I like to think the suits meddled with the movie because it didn't feel like a comic book at all, rather a sci fi mess on top of the awful CG. Marvel a lot better tapping into the heroes journey while also tipping their hat to the comic book readers. At least Blake Lively was good time waster...

The lore is deep. They have oodles of source material to draw from. To start it'd be green and most likely yellow. Left to right. Death, rage, avarice, fear, will power, hope, compassion, love, life. Can expand as they see fit. VFX on a lantern show is costly. HBO is better suited than say on a CW Arrowverse. If they cast a Guy Gardner should be a meaty role.
There's always a problem with comic book heroes is avoiding becoming silly. It already requires a lot of suspension of disbelief for comic book heroes especially with awesome powers like Green Lantern and usually when they fail it's people just realize how silly it is to have someone in a flamboyant skin tight suit shooting lasers out of parts of their body. Ryan Reynolds can be brilliant with silly but in Green Lantern it was just too hard to accept.
Judging from the pic it looks like this will be the John Stewart Green Lantern and not Hal Jordan. From what I remember John Stewart is an architect so I would like to see a scene where he creates something with his ring and then is forced to take it down because it doesn't meet exiting codes.
Hal Jordan, John Stewart, and Kyle Raynor won't be in the series they are saving them for a potential Green Lantern movie.
With the ensemble cast this sounds like it'll be closer to the animated movie Green Lantern: Emerald Knights or maybe even Guardians of the Galaxy. If the chipmunk GL is in it then I'd guess the latter.
Doom Patrol is my favorite super hero show. I think they’ll do a good job with this. but anyways, power being based on willpower sounds stupid.
