If JVG gets the job, it looks like 3 out of the 4 Van Gundy brothers will be back in the league coaching.
Please let it be JVG! Maybe not only salary, but certain assurances as to personnel/$$$$ spent to upgrade team.
Trying to find a way for it work for both sides huh lol My guess - Tilman lowballing JVG, trying to find out what the absolute lowest he will take while jerking off the the thought of saying screw it sign Lucas, JVG is putting up with it because he wants to coach but is probably a little iffy with the low ball combined with Morey departing.
So am I. Love me some JVG! But he's been out a looong time. & I just can't see how he won't clash with Harden & Brodie. Another very bad, unintended consequence of JVG here is that it would leave more time for Mark Jackson to talk (Mama there goes that man!(.....yeah that man won't shut up!) Ready to give some new blood a chance.
I think JVG takes a lower salary just because it's an opportunity to coach in his adopted hometown. JVG and his family love Houston, so taking a little less than market value to work in a city you love isn't all that bad.
I don't see JVG leaving his easy tv gig unless he gets paid what he feels like is the number he wants to get back into coaching.
In some ways yes he would be the best. Van Gundy would be the most attentive to details, he would be the best fundamentals and defensive coach Harden has had.... in other ways Harden will never have a coach as good as MDA. The reality is MDA plays a big part in Harden turning into an all time great player.
