I know we are not New York or LA but we are better than most cities in terms of market size, having no state income tax helps and Rockets have a great history.

When you think about it, we had some of the biggest stars ever in the league (granted some were via drafts) but still we kept them here.

    Moses
    Dream
    Sampson
    Barkley
    Pippen
    Clyde
    Francis
    Yao
    Tmac
    Chris Paul
    Harden
    Russ

That is a pretty stellar list in my opinion and we should not sell ourselves short. We have a great city, great organization, great history and every free agent/player will be lucky to be part of the Rocket family.

Cross out the ones that were acquired through trade or drafted and see who is left on your list.

It's pretty rare for great players to just decide to come here in free agency like LA or Miami.

You do not attract the superstars you want badly.

Basically stars that you have on your back burner.

We aren't a destination for stars.

All of our stars are either:
    1) Drafted
    2) Traded for
    3) Wanted to come here AFTER the other star was here

That third was is key. The point is you get rid of harden/westbrook hypothetically tomorrow, the best FAs aren't signing in Houston.

LA, Miami, NY (brooklyn right now instead of Knicks) those are the destinations.

lol, pretty much all of them were drafted or traded for, so no, Houston does not attract stars

Dwight, CP3, and Russ came because of Harden...if Harden was not here (a star that we traded for), they would’ve never come here willingly

so yeah, Houston does not attract stars unless we already have a star we drafted or traded for already on the roster

when LA sucked they couldn't atract stars either. Same for the Knicks.

    Winning + Destination attracts stars.

As far as destination goes, LA, NY, Mia, GS, will always be at the top. If they aren't options because they're capped out or not winning, Houston, Boston, Phily, and Chi will be next in the convo.

you know who doesn't attract stars no matter how much they win? Utah, Charlotte, Memphis, Minni, Sacto, Cleveland, Detroit, Indy, Milwaukee, Orlando, and OKC.

Considering players specifically ask to be traded here eg Steve Francis, Charles Barkley, Clyde Drexler, Chris Paul...

He meant if the city attracted recent stars.

McHale and Hakeem might have attracted Dwight.

In Chris Paul's case he wanted to play with Harden until he didn't.

Bosh gave it a thought, Jimmy Bucket didn't.

Lebron was extremely picky, that's just 0.0001% odds at best.

Francis wanted to get out of Vancouver.

The #1 reason we haven’t won a championship in the last quarter century is that we’ve failed to attract stars, even when we had our own stars (acquired in trades) recruiting them.

If Butler had come here, everything would be different. We can’t even recruit Houstonians.

    1. Does anybody actually say that? Doesn't seem like a common thing to hear IMO.
    2. How many teams are actually out there ATTRACTING stars on a regular basis? 3-4?

When you talk about attracting stars we're talking free agency and the only free agent on that list was Pippen. You can add Dwight Howard as a free agent. I think that's about it though.
