    Yes, they call it Ms.G.

    Somehow it gives people phantom headaches after eating and turns them super loud and obnoxious

    Air quality is insanely bad, I've heard. Is nobody concerned about that?

    What do you hear about the collapse of the recycling program. Anybody in China care?

    I do think that was very real during the 80s and 90s and sometimes now.

    If your population goes over 1 billion or more, you tend to treat them like ants or robots as you say.

    Sad thing, they only realize now that every life should matter but you lose the overview due to tons of people.

    Thank you. I got roasted as a racist in one of the GARM threads for pointing this out.

    Also...US pork exports are allegedly supposed to be coming to China. Let us know when the prices start dropping.

    Deng Xiaoping, a paramount figure of the second-generation party leadership, had openly admitted that Mao made mistakes since late 1950s (see http://dangshi.people.com.cn/GB/165617/166495/10002299.html, in Chinese). That was an important part of the history of CCP.

    Do you think the CCP will eventually crack down on HK (similar to Tianamen Square)?

    As we have seen with the NBA(they backed off because of the Olympics), they cannot crack down on it entirely without repercussions from the Outside.

    So everyone coming together rather diplomatically is their only chance, making compromises.

    Yes, there are Mainland guys in the HK police force but still the majority are Cantonese I believe, so at least they speak the Dialect and can understand everyone.

    Nobody has the intel on whether it is the governments' call or just police brutality amidst the chaos because the police department itself decided so. (no clue if Secret Intelligence of other nations like the US are involved too.)

    There is a difference between, when the government says: 'Contain the violence' and when some Police officers or others decide to rape students while on duty plus extra more violence.

    They are clearly abusing the situation.

    China is extremely capitalistic when it comes to economy and business, you are really mixing up how the government treats its people vs how it sees economy&business.

    China saw its mistakes long ago and knew it had to treat business openly like the Western World does, they'd be the first to tell you that a strict traditional economy in Communist fashion doesn't work in the modern world.

    they just blame 四人帮'big 4 bad guys' in history textbook.
    Deng's speech is not a official attitude to cultrual revolution.
    look at the newest chinese history textbook.

    http://news.sina.com.cn/o/2018-01-11/doc-ifyqptqv7638885.shtml

    统编历史教材按照新的编写体例,在第6课《艰辛探索与建设成就》中,将“文化大革命”单独作为一个专题进行了重点讲述,分六段全面系统讲述了“文化大革命”发生的背景、过程和危害等。

    主要内容是,

    第一段讲“文化大革命”发生的背景;

    第二段讲一些党政机关受到冲击,大批领导干部和知识分子遭到揪斗,社会和生产秩序陷于混乱;

    第三段讲老一辈革命家对江青等人的倒行逆施进行针锋相对的斗争;

    第四段讲林彪反革命集团阴谋策动反革命政变,反革命集团被粉碎;

    第五段讲粉碎“四人帮”和“文化大革命”结束;

    第六段讲“文化大革命”给党、国家和各族人民带来新中国成立后最严重的挫折,造成了巨大的损失,需要我们反思和总结。

    The latest history textbook for middle school students still admits Mao's role in Culture Revolution -- which is mentioned in the first paragraph -- despite not expanding on that. One could say Mao's role is downplayed a bit in the textbook, possibly for political interests, but definitely not ignored. Meanwhile, it might be a bit difficult for middle school students to have a complete understanding of a political event like that without a lot of reading.

    (课本原文:20世纪60年代中期,毛泽东认为党和国家面临着资本主义复辟的危险。为此,他强调‘以阶级斗争为纲’,想通过发动‘文化大革命’来防止资本主义复辟。1966年夏,‘文化大革命’全面发动起来。)

    The document "Resolution on Certain Questions in the History of Our Party Since the Founding of the People's Republic of China" (关于建国以来党的若干历史问题的决议), published by the Central Committee (中共中央) in June 1981, has always been considered the official assessment of major historical events since 1949, including the Culture Revolution (here is the corresponding section, and here is the background of the document). Wikipedia provides a summary for English readers.

    One recent article from Xinhua News Agency, the official state-run press agency of China, still admitted Mao's role and wrong assessment during Culture Revolution.

    Mao was the leader of Culture Revolution. Gang of Four (四人帮) carried out the plan and used it to seize power. They might also did things that were not known by Mao.

    Some excerpts from the document referenced in my previous post:
    这场“文化大革命”是毛泽东同志发动和领导的。…… 至于毛泽东同志所重用过的林彪、江青等人,他们组成两个阴谋夺取最高权力的反革命集团,利用毛泽东同志的错误,背着他进行了大量祸国殃民的罪恶活动,这完全是另外一种性质的问题。
    ……
    对于“文化大革命”这一全局性的、长时间的“左”倾严重错误,毛泽东同志负有主要责任。……他在全局上一直坚持“文化大革命”的错误,但也制止和纠正过一些具体错误,保护过一些党的领导干部和党外著名人士,使一些负责干部重新回到重要的领导岗位。
