I don't like CK or Burr, just a couple of whining old white men. I've never found their stuff funny. Seems like they are geared towards an older audience maybe Saw Trevor Noah at Red Rocks recently, put on a really good set. I was surprised how good it was
Under the radar in the past 20 years Mike Epps Katt Williams D.L. Russell Peters Elvira Kurt Godfrey Hannibal Burress Judah Freelander Jonathan Witherspoon Kyle Cease Deon Cole Bo Burnham
Hannibal Burress must be an acquired taste because he does not make me laugh Godfrey on the other hand makes me laugh in his interviews Rocket River
Aziz Ansari Right Now special on netflix easily one of the best specials ever. Hmmm, me wonders if Louie C.K will follow suit?
Watching Aziz's new stand up and its good. Hes widely accepted by everybody to cross the invisible race barrier and its refreshing, cause ITS REAL. Its been funny so far. I dont know if he should be in the discussion for top comedian but hes a personal favorite of mine.
Man he’s just not my cup of tea. His whiny voice and personality just kills it for me. I can barely get through rewatches of p&r because of his character alone. I noped out of his new special in like 5 minutes because I just can’t take it.
Not funny. Never was. I remember watching a set of his in the late 90s and it was all race jokes and old school r&b renditions. I got invited to a birthday dinner at improv about a year ago and if I knew he was performing I never would've gone. The same race jokes, the same r&b renditions. The room was majority white and white people laugh at everything, the room was dead. He sucks. He's a wannabe Jamie Foxx. Now Jamie Foxx, that dude is funny. Saw him in Dallas in 04( may have been 02. Early 2000s, we'll leaveit at that) and laughed so hard my stomach was sore the next day
Great list though Katt Williams did Toyota Center about a year ago so I’m not sure that under the radar fits. : ) I’ve seen Godfrey a half dozen times on complete accident in various sets around the country. He’s fantastic.
I don't know how many people know Jimmy Carr, but he's great at quick wittedness and deadpan. Literally has written books and done routines and on dissecting and constructing jokes. Very much a studied craftsman in the field of comedy. We've been talking about stand-up comedians, mainly, but for my money, it's hard to beat Wayne, Ryan, and Colin from Whose Line. I haven't watched much of the new version, because I don't like the new host (and I forget it exists), but I could watch older episodes with Drew over and over and still laugh. Much of the first version was in the early 2000s and the second version is still going I believe. Flight of the Conchords was/is also amazing, and Bret and Jemaine have done some great stuff individually since.
