Of course, Houston has navigated its way out of the tax in each of the last two years, and team owner Tilman Fertitta has been particularly hard this season by the club’s lost China revenue and the coronavirus pandemic, which has affected many of his other businesses. As such, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see the Rockets cut costs, at least to some extent. For now, we’re assuming they’ll be limited to the taxpayer’s mid-level exception, but that could change. } Cap Exceptions Available Spoiler Taxpayer mid-level exception: $5,718,000 Trade exception: $3,595,333 (expires 2/5/21) Trade exception: $2,564,753 (expires 2/5/21) Trade exception: $1,620,564 (expires 2/5/21) Trade exception: $1,620,564 (expires 2/8/21) Footnotes Spoiler McLemore’s salary becomes fully guaranteed after October 18. The cap holds for Black, Faried, and Duval remain on the Rockets’ books because they haven’t been renounced after going unsigned in 2019/20. They can’t be used in a sign-and-trade deal. This is a projected value. If the team cuts costs, it could have the full mid-level exception ($9,258,000) and bi-annual exception ($3,623,000) available. So based on The Above Rockets can have a 9.25 Mil Exception and 3.6 Bi- Annual on two players if they can cut cost some. Anyways it doesnt say how the team would cut the cost for that 9.25 Exception. Id assume its Trading Eric Gordon for 2 players, one who could fit in this team now, and another who contract expires soon. Letting Ben McLemore go before the deadline next month to save some money as well. If the rockets can cut cost I kinda Like Ibaka for that Full Mid Level, and Reggie Jackson with Bi Annual if possible. https://www.slamonline.com/nba/top-2020-nba-free-agents-list/
No comments ? Was hoping someone knew how Houston gets that 9 mil mid level exception to spend i was hoping it was just by cutting Mclemore and letting all the contracts expire? Guess it would be Letting Mclmore and Forcing Austin Rivers to go else where? + 4 Mil??
according to @BimaThug we'd have to basically clear gordon's salary to be able to afford the NTMLE and stay under the tax. very unlikely we find a team with cap space that wants to absorb his contract, unless we dump our remaining pics on them. not worth it. the NTMLE won't happen this year.
Cutting cost is always a bad option. Think if you have a Kelly Oubre on the roster, you would have more team value and you can turn into first round pick and so on. Cutting costs is just wrong direction. How many times did I say this?
If you cut cost by dumping Gordon salary, and one of top players is injured. You would play ping pong ball for Thunder.
Anyone is crazy if they think dumping Gordon to cut costs is a good idea. I do think he’s untradable to a reasonable extent, but he’s not a salary dump. Christ you guys are harsh
Rockets reported non guaranteed contracts Tucker $7.96M non guaranteed McLemore $2.28M non guaranteed Clemons $1.52M non guaranteed https://en.hispanosnba.com/salaries/houston-rockets Tucker/Clemons = $9.48M (Before tabulating any partial payments) Tucker/McLemore/Clemons = $11.76M. (Before tabulating any partial payments) *(approximate numbers) Releasing Tucker may be taking two or three steps backwards to go one step forward......Ibaka? Easy for national media to cut Tucker......not so much for loyal Rockets fans. Not sure? Might be a net gain? Price for Ibaka matters. He made $23M for 28 minutes a game in 19/20.
If you can move Gordon for Ersan + George Hill that would be ideal in terms of reducing salary. Ersan's number next year is $7 million but completely non-guaranteed. George Hill's contract has him making about $9 million next year but the year after that is only guaranteed for $1.7. If you keep both players at least they're serviceable and Hill is a great 3pt shooter. If not, cutting Ersan shaves off that $7 million for 20/21. Fertitta will only then have to pay Hill one year at $9 million and can cut bait the year after. Gordon would also provide the Bucks with another person that can handle the ball. Shooting better than Hill? No but he can get to the basket a lot better.
Did you say cut cost? This has Tilman LTS Fertitta’s fingerprints all over it. Just like every year as owner we will not be tax payers, will not use any trade exceptions, and not use the BAE or MLE
Not going to lie but He spaces the floor and is a big man defensive jugganaut that could probably handle AD, he is exactly what houston needs at center. He is a win win and a big upgrade to tucker. If you can talk tucker to come back for the vets, dont have to play the center job anymore, and can come off the bench or start where you can switch him in/out w/ Covington. You would have to get some big time recruiting from westbrook and harden thou to get him to sign for a 1 year deal but im assuming he will get so much money thrown at him, and hes already got a ring so...
Houston Rockets sportrac shows Rockets deadline to waive Tucker as 06/30. But then Coronavirus happened since contract was written. If the Rockets didn't do it already....Tucker getting secured is just a formality. Big then again a new coach may want conventional center. Tucker money used for that purpose. Usually deadlines in the off-season are meant for the team to evaluate. Rockets may be allowed a deadline pushback because of Covid.
This. Or Ersan + Robin Lopez and then cut Ersan. Robin Lopez will have to be convinced to opt in for $5million for next season but we can promise him a be our starting center.
