no...but it delays the inevitable. Players like him because he really is a players coach, but this team needs an offensive mind. To much stagnant offense speaks to Mchale not calling set plays. Sometimes when the gimmick doesnt work, you have to revert to something or you will lose. Last night the Rockets established that tight pick and roll to the basket and it was very effective...

If we win the series Nope i don't believe so, he will remain the coach next year. But i dont know man I am iffy about Mchale not sure if he can take us to the promise land. IF he remains here What we do need is a good defensive assistant coach to replace Sampson.

IF he remains here next year, who do you guys think would be a good defensive minded coach to join our team as assistant coach ?

I think they will approach it like they do for the roster.

See who is available, talk to Harden/Howard, and go from there.

Pushing for George Karl or Jerry Sloan myself.

If we got Melo, I think Karl would be out.
If we went a different route and nabbed Lowry/Milsap, I think Karl would be my choice.

If they win this series and lose the next series. I'll still fire him.

You are acting like he would be on the hot seat. That regular season didn`t put his job in jeapordy. If we get beat badly in the first round, that might do the trick. But if we advance through that adversity, of course he stays. As much as several fans want him gone, the FO seems to believe in him, and you can`t really argue with the results he is getting (not counting that horrible start to the playoffs - which would be forgotten if he wins round one despite being down 0-2)

The Rockets front office will always look for an upgrade at every spot on the court and off the court. However, McHale is close with the owner and the GM and he lost his top assistant right before the playoffs.

The complaints people have about McHale are the ones people had about Rivers when he took over the Celtics. Coaches grow and improve. McHale is like Rivers and KC Jones in that he is a natural leader.

The issue is that neither Karl nor Sloan believe in the philosophy the Rockets have, which is a communal think tank. Further Sloan and Karl are quite old and wouldn't be long for the job. Realistically whom will be out there better than McHale?

Carlisle, Thibs, Rivers, Popovich and Spoelstra are clearly better than McHale but they are not going to be available.

Who does that leave? Adelman.... Nope.... Ty Corbin.... Nope... Lawrence Frank?... No.... Avery Johnson?... Yuck...

Only possible interesting name is Vogel.... but do you want a guy that couldn't hold his team together and Larry Bird views as soft?

The reality is, unless you want to go outside the box and take an assistant from another staff and name him head coach, or go foreign, you don't have much to choose from. Do the Rockets really want to train and risk an assistant to be the next head coach? I doubt it.

The old standby is Steve Van Gundy but he has a history of losing his players just like other coaches.

Another thing to consider is that the OKC job may be available, which means competition to get the best available coach.

Too bad, the perfect coach for the Rockets, is the one they wanted before, Rick Carlisle.

    Hilarious premise.

Similarly - if the Rockets win the series, is Harden still traded?

I have been pro-McHale in the past, but I haven't been thrilled with some of his moves this series. I give him a lot of credit for the development of Parsons, Jones as players and Dmo/Howards post games.

I am not a "fire McHale" guy, but as I said, I would look for one of those "5 or 6 coaches" which have a huge effect on games. I think Karl is one of those guys.

I am not 100% convinced Karl nor Sloan do not believe in the Rockets system. Maybe they do, but I would explore it.
