Honestly, I've never been to Mexico and never, EVER intend to so I wasn't sure if it was just an ID passport or the whole booklet.

After looking at deals recently you could prolly make ~2k work there but probably only if you go earlier in the week [M-Thur] as rooms/airfare are a lot less expensive

New Orleans is probably a better option for the budget

Our 10 years is about 3 1/2 away and we're gonna do the same. Saving up money now to head to New Zealand. Neither of us have been and looks like beautiful country with plenty to do. And we'll get to see Middle Earth!

 

We're looking at The Cosmopolitan or Aria --probably Aria for the restaurants & they throw in two show tickets [on expedia]

 

Chopper tour over the city, dinner at the fanciest restaurant and night at the best suite in the nicest hotel.
