Aptly describes my reaction to reading this thread, then finally coming across your post. Repped, my friend.
i live in london, and don't know anyone who would pronounce it like that. We have a train station called Euston that people sometimes pronounce Houston similar to, but i usually kill those people, so their numbers are dwindling.
There was a theater professor at UH almost a decade ago named Huston. People were torn whether his name was pronounce "huss-tunn" or "Hyoo-stun"
I live in Houston County, GA. We pronounce it that way. They always say do you live in a house or in a huse.
I had a professor my freshman year from Boston who used to always say "Yew-ston" and "Humble". This was at a university in Dallas, and having lived there for many years he had fully adopted the Dallas-area jackassness. So when one day I politely pointed out the correct way to pronounce the name of those cities, he looked at me with such disdain that I thought he would fail me in the class. Joke's on him though. I think he's dead now. Oh and Spoiler
Yew-stun is the correct pronunciation, but I have no problem with Hugh-stun either, in fact I think it sounds better. I like to call it "Hughes-town", since that is really what it was named after.
As much as I love and use the ignore list, I wish there was a way to automatically block any thread started by someone on your list. That would be awesome.
PLEASE remember it. Will give rep. Anything to rid my eyes of this virgins posts will always be remembered.
