Does anyone here remember Kaepernick from college besides the infamous Boise State game where Boise's kicker missed the two easy FGs that blew their perfect season? Was he a pinpoint passer at Nevada? I wouldn't describe Kaepernick as RG3 lite, yet. They are both very athletic and have cannon arms, but I've got to see this guy play a few more times. Looking forward to it very much.
He played for Nevada, so it's hard to say what the competition was like, but looking at his Wiki page, he's apparently all over the NCAA recordbooks. i'm the biggest packers fan EVER! and let me tell you, if the defense wasn't the best at creating turnovers three seasons ago Arin Roygers would have been in another one and done scenario. i think harbaugh is screwing the 49ers chances this year not going back to smith. smith isn't happy and colin k. will be figured out after a few games once teams get more film.
I noticed how Smith kept his helmet on all game yesterday. Stone face when Kaepernick ran in a TD. He's definitely pissy about this. But oh well. He's a Kyle Orton-class player, and Kaepernick has looked fantastic in his two games. I don't see teams being more successful "figuring him out" than they were against Smith. Smith had a nice 1.5 year run, but he doesn't give them a better chance to win. The 49ers that played yesterday are a much scarier team.

i agree they are scary but not because of colin k. they scored 2 pick sixes on defense and won by 10. that defense is scary good. look at rg3, luck, tannehill, wilson, they all had min slumps in the middle of the year. colin k. will hit his midseason point when the playoffs start!?!?! i'm telling you it's a bad idea what harbaugh is doing.

Upside. Ceiling. Alex Smith is like Leinart, Carr. Check down central. Kaepernick can get the ball down field. He throws a great ball and is super fast. Reminds me of RG 3.
Alex Smith has the 2nd highest yards per attempt in the league this season, tied with Peyton Manning and behind RG3.
