Nope, you can not amnesty someone acquired in a trade, the only people you can amnesty were the ones with a contract that were on your team when the CBA was signed. Scola, Lowry, Kmart to name 3. DD
If they wanted to get rid of Blatche just to get rid of him they would have amnestied him rather than giving up # 3. The Rockets would have to involve other players of value in that deal to make it worthwhile for the Wiz.
Months ago i mentioned several times to watch out for Washington as a top pick trade partner to use the Rockets in aquiring pieces to put around John Wall, and take on the salary of Rashard Lewis with their top pick. However yesterday happend with Washington aquired surrounding pieces to go along with Wall, Nene, Crawford, etc. and they moved Lewis in the deal as well. That threw my hopes out the window right there.
I assume that Washington used their amnesty already. If not, why would they trade the #3 to get rid of this guy?
The way they are adding salaries, I think it's in their best interest to save over 20 million dollars by this trade. They can then save the amnesty for Nene's long term huge contract in case Nene doesn't perform up to standard later.
They have not used it. When a media member asked Grunfeld last season about Blatche long term stay with the team he alluded to Blathe still being someone they think can turn it around in the future. Meaning, they dont see the point of amnestying him when they still owe him that much money, when they can just ask him to stay away from the team for the rest of the season and hope that he comes back to training camp next year with a new attitude and a Jenny Craig diet. They did not need the salary cap space in the past, and they did not want to give up a potential game changer pick in this years draft just to get rid of his salary. NOBODY would give the Wizards an asset for Blatche, its quite the opposite. In the future, they know they have the amnesty in their back pocket if they need the cap space to re-sign Wall or go after a free agent.
More than likely they are done adding veterans to surround John Wall for now. If they still feel the need to bring in another veteran then it better be a good one. It really just depends on how high they are on the likes of Martin, or Scola. Those are the only two players they would need to shed salary to aquire from the Rockets. And are either of those two players good enough to command the #3 pick? I personally dont think so. If I was Grunfeld I would take my chances at going after Ray Allen in free agency or look at a trade with another team that has a high calliber wing player.
I'm talking about Dlembert+#16+fillers for Blatche+#3. I think it saves Wizards over 20 million dollars(in next 3 years) without using amnesty( which is valuable for flexibility). They can then buyout Dalembert for less than 2 million. Then they may have more cap space to sign other players. Or if Nene doesn't perform down the road, they still have the amnesty available. Imagine if Nene perform poorly(or injured like Amare) with his huge long contract, There's no way they can get rid of it and keep Wall happy without amnesty option available.
This does nothing for them on the basketball court. With their rotation they have going into next year Dalembert would be the 3rd or 4th big in their rotation. Is that worth giving up the #3 pick in the draft for? Now, I will entertain the though of "IF they NEED the Salary Cap Space" when and if that is a reality. Right now, they do not need the salary cap space even with the additions of Okafor/Ariza. If they needed to go deep into their pockets to aquire a superstar wing player for that #3 pick then I have no doubt they would make the deal Blatche + #3 pick for X player. Dalembert, Scola, and Martin would give them quality depth, but they already have that now assuming Nene/Okafur/Ariza are the pieces they thought would do the trick. Another scenario is when they need to extend Wall. I assume thats when they will try to move Blatche or simply use their amnesty clause next Summer on him. Right now, I just dont see their NEED to trade their golden draft pick that they have tanked so hard and long for just to get another role player on their team and get some salary cap relief that they really dont need. Sorry, I just dont see a deal anymore now that they made the Ariza/Okafor deal.
That might be okay as long as we don't keep Blatche. If they do get the 3rd pick, I wonder if they select that Drummond kid? If not him then who?
If he came at the right price and we had the right coach and players around him yes. Unfortunately we don't. San Antonio will probably get him and turn him into another weapon.
Heard he worked out twice a day for basically the whole season and is fully committed to playing basketball again. He is a good person and seems to be dedicated now, I think he could turn his career around.
Agree on most, but I don't think Blatche + #3 pick will get them a superstar or allstar wing. Even #3 alone may not be enough. Sounds like nothing will happen soon, and I agree it depends a lot on their followup moves.
Your right that it probably wont get them a superstar. But #3 pick (gold in trades) is crazy value for a player like Dalembert, Scola, or Martin when all three of those players wouldn't necessarily be clear upgrades to likes of Okafor/Nene/ Crawford , etc. The purpose of the trade would be giving the Wizard bulk starters to fill in around Wall and make the team competitive this next year to keep him there long term. The #3 pick would have been a good tradeoff if the Rockets were able to make a move like Lewis or Blatche, + #3 for Scola, Martin, Dalembert #14th Before the trade that happened yesterday. Now it just wouldn't make sense. Trust me, I have been coveting that pick for weeks. Yesterday when that trade happened I was a bit let down.
Well, things happen. I want the #3 for MKG. But if the rumor of MJ taking Barnes at #2 is true, Wizards with the recent trade may take Beal #3. I have a feeling Cavs can't let Robinson slip at #4. That means MKG maybe available around#6, which is right where Lowry's trade value stays...
And this guy can actually play center! Put a claim on him in the Waiver wire once he gets amnestied and get him! Very underrated
