At the end of the day you work hard to keep your job. Yes I would work hard to avoid being fired.

Every NBA player knows this is a business and you can be traded at anytime before the trade deadline. It's up to them to play hard since they are getting paid good money.

The Rockets have been mediocre the last two years. Morey does not want to be mediocre and neither do the fans.

he can't. he is what he is. morey brought him here due to yao. the whole team is built around yao. when yao gone, a change is must. i have no problem with les to make a move on head coach and morey to rebuild this team.

Well I'm just responding to him using the trade rumors as an excuse. He seems to think they would have been better with no trade rumors.

Kevin is a true pro in many ways and had a whale of a season. Even so he's always had a side to him that I can't stand and this is part of it. Martin's lack of D and flopping on offense isn't attractive, but is acceptable when he's so damn efficient and playing for your team. But there is a juvenile quality that is pervasive in him....always been that way.Yes, Rick is likely on his way out and Martin has his back. That's part of this. Perhaps that promise about Martin not being dealt is about to be broken by Morey. Either way, Kevin needs to go about his business and let DM do his job. At the moment, MOREY is the untouchable.....and should be for a very long time.

It's not an excuse, he's asking for a better work environment.

If the players were mentally tough enough, then trade rumors should make them play harder to prove management wrong. Sort of an "F___ you" attitude.

Its also hard to believe that team chemistry was that affected. All of them were under the same microscope therefore it would seem to me it would make the team closer and work harder for each other for the same reason.

HOWEVER, if the players themselves didn't/wouldn't respond to this little bit of adversity, how will they respond in a clutch playoff situation?

Yep, thats what I think too.

Keep doing what you're doing Darryl/Les.

I think even when you consider the play after the all-star break we are nothing more than 1st round fodder.

We have holes - huge holes - that need to be filled. I love Chuck as much as the next guy but we have got to get a starting C. Though to be honest, I don't think you're going to have teams lining up to trade a starting C for anyone on our roster.

Good luck with that. On a mediocre team you will always be trade bait unless you're a superstar.

remember this whole team is built around yao. unless adding a center of yao caliber, i highly suspect a defensive center will push this team up to the bar lakers, spurs... are set. with a real center, this team can be better but no where near to a contender.

But the question is will you always hear your GM in the media saying everyone is expendable, or is that something the Rockets seem to do more than other teams?

That's not the point. It's about the GM constantly selling to fans/media about trades. All the respected front offices with succesful teams keep trade talk/rumors in-house.

In theory everyone should work hard.
But if your boss constantly walking around and said " man, the economy is bad, we got to layoff somebody" Won't you be distracted? Same to NBA players, they have to worry about the family, children education, house....

Not that Morey can not trade playes, but sometimes I feel he talked too much in public. And not enough communication with players.

A good GM should lead the team and their heart. Otherwise, one is just a 2K game GM. Like so many of us.

That is true Morey does seem to speak on it publicly more than other GM's.

I think if you look at the Celtics, you see something similar to what Kevin Martin is saying

I think all players know they can be traded at any time, especially martin, who's already gone through it. The point is you don't have to keep putting it out there so much. Players know it's a possibility already. Morey did talk a lot about having multiple guys to flip for a star. I think he needs to be more vague with the media.
