The 20 mil mark is reasonable. I don’t blame his agent for not wanting his client to be the guinea pig for weird non guarantee injury protections that other teams including the good ones aren’t doing. He doesn’t have some degenerative disease, he’s been healthy both postseasons. That’s what having a deep team is for.

    Jonathan Kuminga-23
    Herb Jones-19
    Toumani Camara-20

The sudden weird mob mentality shift against him is dumb, he’s a good young player with potential for that next contract his age 25-29 to look good in hindsight.

It’s all about the injuries. He is a good player when available. He had a horrible slump, but he also was the best 3 point shooter in the league for a good long while. We don’t know what the Rockets know about the likelihood of injuries going forward. They let him go to restricted free agency for a reason. They have a target amount they want to pay him based on their knowledge of how he plays, how he practices, and his medical prognosis. My guess is they offer him a contract of around 20m a year, but with some team options. If another team beats their offer, they will decide whether it’s worth the gamble or not. There isn’t a ton of FA money out there, so I’m not sure how much leverage Momster has.

Agreed. I don’t have the info on his specific injury status, was just going off his games played year by year being comparable to other guys from other teams that have gotten contracts without the injury protection clauses.

Can you explain the Momster thing? She might have had a crash out I didn’t see.

From my perspective she was always pretty skilled in being active on social media amidst the ses pool of hyenas saying anything on there. Most public figures avoid it.

It was just a joke about Momster who seems to have quite the influence on Tari. I have no idea if that is a good thing or a bad thing.

I liked “Momster” for a wee bit and then I began to actually dislike her. I think she is leaning way too hard and to be becoming Twitter famous.

having both of your kids active in sports is fine. I’m wondering if she is one of these parents that pushes their kids to the extreme? And again not that that is necessarily a terrible thing but you can look at the ball family or probably a lot of other parents out there that pushed their kids too hard in that direction

Amen Thompson seems to have been raised to be an NBA player from birth, but you don’t see his parents injecting themselves everywhere.

it was fun at first, but it’s gone way too far.

Coby White intends to sign three-year deal to return to Hornets
    Jun. 25, 2026, 8:49 AM PDT
Shams Charania: Free agent guard Coby White intends to sign a three-year, $74 million deal to return to the Charlotte Hornets, sources tell ESPN. White was a major priority for the Hornets and now steps into a new starting role in the backcourt.

So this is another potential comp for Tari’s deal. I think Coby is a better player and has been more productive and durable. Ayo made $22 mil. I think that’s closer to what Tari gets. I still think $20 is what’s fair. Hope that’s where this lands.

I would not be surprised at all if a competitor bids more than $20 million for Tari, if only to make the Rockets dig deeper in the bank. I bet his final number is closer to 25.

And the Rockets will have no choice but to match the contract so they don't lose him for nothing, which is on Stone.

and this is why many of us thought that if the rockets had any doubt they wouldn’t be able to resign him, they should trade him. If we sign and trade now, we won’t get anything more than 2nd rounders for him. If we had done it last season we would have gotten more. I assumed the rockets had a good understanding of the risks and where Tari’s head was at. If he signs the QO that’s also bad as we will lose him as a free agent next offseason. We’ll see how this shakes out, but I don’t have a great feeling. Fortunately there hasn’t been a restricted free agent signed away from a team in many many yrs. So we have history behind us.

Is there a reason that the Rockets haven’t extended a Qualifying Offer yet?

Im assuming they were exclusively negotiating with him for an extension and those negotiations have led to a dead end. So now by extending a QO he can go out and solicit contracts from other teams.

My concern is he gets $25-$26 mil offer that is uncomfortable to match. That’s the risk.

Usually, when a player signs with another team as an UFA, don’t the two sides work out a SNT if the original team doesn’t match? Seems like that used to happen a lot.

I like Tari, but only for a certain price. And that price isn’t higher than $20M. If another team offers that, more power to them. I don’t see it as losing him for nothing, because even if we don’t do a SNT, it gives us the opportunity to use the MLE, which we likely won’t if we re-sign him.

If Tari is re-signed by the Rockets, they won’t have the NT-MLE available to them. Smart isn’t worth the NT-MLE, and Tari needs to be traded.

I think the only teams that can offer significant money are Brooklyn and Chicago. I would be a bit surprised if Brooklyn was interested. Chicago reportedly tried to trade for Tari at the deadline so perhaps they might be interested in him.
